Time for a new machine I think. Sounds like corrupted memory - fortunately the loader is still working - so you may be able to do a software update. So search the web to try and locate the last software update image and apply that using a laptop, with a USB to Serial converter cable, and the Humax windows firmware update tool. Not sure that any of that is still around given the age of the machine

I just had the same problem with mine and found another post that at least fixed mine.
I had a DVD in the unit as it was restarting. I took a flathead screwdriver and opened up the DVD slot by inserting at the top right corner and opening the door. On the inside, at the bottom right, is a button that ejects the DVD player (the eject button on the outside won't work while it's booting up). I ejected the DVD that was in it, unplugged the unit for 30 seconds, and then it rebooted just fine.
Hope it works out for you too...
SOURCE: PVR problem.
We have now used warrantee 3 times to get a PVR that does not freeze. None were your brand, but the reboot process was to cut the power to the unit to reset. On each one we took back, this became progressively worse and such a pain. The unit we have now is a Topfield TRF-7160. The only catch is it only has 500 gig drive which is a bit limiting but of all the things that annoyed us this has the least. You can also preset 5 minutes ealy start and 10 minutes on the back end to beat channel 7 slackness on program times. I loves the 128 speed fast forward also to push the ads.
What I am saying is they are very flakey items it seems.
Just by the way - we went through a antena problem with the mast head amplifier when the amps power supply failed, Just check that also.
Testimonial: "Thanks for your help but I done a default setting reset and that has cured the problem ... Thank you."
