I just aquired a 1 year old Kenmore upright. It worked when I plugged it in. Then I unpluged it for 2 weeks, I went on vacation, and now I plugged it back in and its not freezing. The light on the bottom and inside works and its running. Any ideas?

I have a GE Upright - No Frost Model FUFDTARWH and it will only get about 20 degrees. It is a little over 1 year old and worked fine for the first year. About one month ago, it would not get below 20.
Idea's?
Thanks.

My freezer was purchased in February, 2004. It is a self defrosting freezer but ice has started forming along the bottom shelf and back wall. Also, after cleaning the freezer the other day it has stopped clycing. The freezer will stop running only if I turn it down to the #1 setting and then it will not come back on. If I turn it up to a higher setting the compressor will not stop running. It ran for over 24 hours and would not cycle unless I turned it off or set it at the #1 setting. When I unplugged it and pulled it away from the wall, there was a green water spot the size of a dinner plate underneath the freezer. Help!! Very Unhappy this freezer is only 6 years old. S in Phila.
Defrost timer/control may be defective, compressor start device may be defective, or, if this unit has the digital display on front upper portion of door, then it is bad. Give us a model number so we can look at the unit you have. What ever the prob is/was, keep close eye on unit for the next few weeks, if it is one of the above mention problems it will occur again.
You can try 2 things. Unplug it for about 2-3 minutes and then replug it. It should reset itself. You can silence the alarm or muffle it. Silencing it should be hard. Disconnect it from its source. You may want to find out why it is alarming constantly. Have you called Sears and asked them?
simple stuff, you have a compressor a stat and power. check the receptacle to be sure you have 120 volts . then check the compressor with stat at max cold setting to see if you have 120 volts at compressor. if you do then compresssor is bad =new compressor or new unit. if no power to compressor then stat is bad= new stat. i always recomend new unit cause new stat or compressor wont fix a freon leak.... i have replaced a few compressors that died soon after due to a freon leak. good luck...
A no power to the compressor is a good sign as far as being repairable is concerned. Locate the temperature control. Unplug the freezer and jumper the two main wires that connect to the control. Plug it in and if the unit runs replace the thermostat.
FIRST TURN THE TEMP CONTRAL ALL THE WAY OFF.LISTEN FOR A CLICK AND TURN TO HALF WAY SETTING IF IT CLICK IT'S ALLRIGHT, NEVER TO COLDEST,NEXT PLUG A RADIO IN THE PLUG TO MAKE SURE YOU HAVE POWER,DOES YOUR FREEZER HAVE A LIGHT ON FRONT TO TELL IF POWER IS ON?ALSO CHECK BREAKER BOX,THANKS-MIKE
Use a freezer thermometer and tell me the actual temperature. Or at least store some ice cream and see if it stays brick hard. Unless I have some idea of the actual temp I can't tell if defective freezer or alarm
