Can't get the 3 piece gasket to install. Screws are binding in the rubber so I cannot get the tank to tighten down (there is enough room between the tank & the wall). I am also concerned that I am going to have leaking issues since there are no washers. \r\n General comment - the tech writers who did the instruction sheets are horrible

Not all toilets are made for the same distance from the drain pipe to the wall. Are you certain that the toilet you are trying to install was made for the spacing you have in your bathroom.

Sounds like you need to enlarge the holes in the gasket slightly or you could try some grease on the threads so that they do not bind on the rubber.

Tank seems to be loose from seat on toilet

Those tanks are usually held on to the bottom by 2 bolts with rubber gaskets in between. Its possible the bolts have come loose or was not installed tight enough when installed. The rubber gaskets could be rotten as well depending on its age. You should be able to buy the parts you need at a hardware store. You can also buy the float as well as all the parts to replace all the working parts. I would start from scratch unless its cheaper to just replace the whole unit. I would get prices to compare. If you are handy at all you can do it yourself but if not call a plumber.

Try checking to see if you got the gaskets that around the plastic things in correctly.Often a part is in upside down or in the wrong order (IE bolt washer metal washer instead of bolt metal washer washer)You can make sure that the bolts are tight enough to compress the gasket but do not tighten them to much, you will crack the toilet.

I think my av elements on my husqvarna 36 chainsaw are too soft. The throtle trigger handle seems not to be tightly secure to the main body of the saw. Also the screws that attach the metal handlebar wont...

The screws into the tank to secure the top handle are self tapping, so if they will not tighten then yes the threads had stripped, you may be able to aquire some over sized screws to cure this, the saw has four rubber anti vibration mounts, and two bumper rubers either side of the tank to stop sideways movement, the later machine had a rubber around the right hand side of the top handle also to stop side ways movement, To change the rubbers you need to remove the starter cover, two of the securing screws also hold the l/h rubbers, remove the alloy chain catcher on the r/h side, and the cover plate top r/h side held with a single screw, the tank should now drop far enough to remove the rubbers, they are screw into the tank wit a self tapping screw on the back, you will need a special tool to remove them part no. 502510002, do not pull the tank too far down or you will stretch the fuel hose.

Hello, W/D here.

Most probably, the tank-to-bowl gasket has not seated properly. They are usually neoprene, and tend to bight on the bowl socket rather than to slide into the socket where it can be compressed properly. Remove the tank bolts and look at the gasket. Re-install, using a water based lubricant on the bowl side, with the gasket installed on the tank flange. Wiggle the tank and gasket back and forth a few times, and the gasket will start properly into the cast socket on the bowl. Install the bolts and tighten to finger tight. Wiggle the tank a bit more, and level the top. Tighten the bolts uniformly.
You mention that the flush valve was hand tightened only. If this gasket is not snug (a bit more than hand tight), a leak can occur there as well.
Best regards, --W/D--

Toilet bowl is leaking at the screws. They are brand new and as tight as I can get them. Is there a better screw to buy?

Without clarification I can only offer the following.
The tank sits on a rubber ring that is between the tank and the commode. The screws come with rubber washers, and sometimes have metal flat washers as well. The screw assembly should be as follows:
If metal flat washers are provided, they go on the screw first. Then the rubber washer. If it is cone shaped the big end goes on first so the cone will be pointing down when installed. Insert this assembly through the tank and commode. Install the nut, usually nylon, loosely. There is usually no washer required for the nut as it is normally designed to be self centering. Repeat for other side. Once both are in, tighten them hand tight making sure they are tightened evenly. If the assembly did not include the metal flat washers (step one) try to tighten the assembly from the bottom without turning the screw heads to avoid torquing the rubber washers. Use the slot head only to hold the screw while tightening the nut. Alternate sides making sure that you are tightening them evenly. DO NOT OVER-TIGHTEN as you can crack/break the porcelain very easily.
I have seen the rubber washers installed between the tank and base as sometimes the instructions are not clear. Even though this seems to make sense they must be inside the tank.
Hope this helps.

Replace toilet tank bolts

Go to a plumbing supply house and get 2 or 3 bolts, 2 or 3 rubber sleeves for the bolts, and a new rubber gasket to go between the tank and toilet. Turn the supply water off, sorry, but, you don't know how many people don't do that. Disconnect the supply line from the tank. Flush the toilet, to remove water from the tank. Unbolt the tank. On the back underside of the toilet, you have 2 or 3 nuts to remove, depending on the toilet. Lift off the tank. Turn over the tank and set it on a towel. Now, gently tap down the bolts. Turn tank over and pull out the bolts. Turn tank back over and remove the tank and bolt gaskets, just push them in. Turn tank over. push in the new gaskets. Replace tank gasket, and gently tap down new bolts. Remount the tank. tighten the nuts, be careful, always tighten the nuts about the same. never tighten one all the way, and then another. YOU can crack the tank when tightening. Just nice and snug. Re hook the water supply, and turn on. Always check for leaks. If dripping, just tighten a little more. Just remember to tighten the all the nuts a little at a time. Keeping the tank level when tightening.

Installing new jacuzzi 1.6 gallon maxima toilet. despite following the instructions, the water is leaking from between where the tank connects to the bowl. Please help.

Yes, it seems the folks who wrote the instructions have never actually done any plumbing.

first place a rubber washer on the bolt, then put it through the hole in the tank. Then place another rubber washer on the bolt, followed by a metal washer and a nut. Tighten the nut, not the bolt.
Using a screwdriver hold the bolt in place, and tighten the nut until snug and the rubber washers are compressed slightly.

Follow this step with all the "tank to bowl" bolts.

Now the bolts are tight to the tank and will not leak water.

Then place the large rubber gasket over the flush valve hole on the bottom of the tank. and set the tank on the bowl with the bolts through the bowls holes.

Place a metal washer on the bolt, and then a nut.

Tighten each nut equally until the tank has no wobble.

Took tank off and reinstalled 9 times - put new gaskets and rings in - but it leaks. Tank also wiggles a bit.

Go to the hardware store and get a tube of plumber's grease. Then grease up the gaskets and the rubber ring. Snug everything down and if it leaks snug it down a bit more
