Hi, I have a goldStar GA 1866VHR split Airconditioner, (5050w cooling and 5040w heating capacity). Today I noticed that compressor/condenser unit was still running after I turned off the aircond: from the remote control. The fan unit turned off as normal. I had to turn off the isolation switch to turn off the compressor/condenser unit. After about 2-3 hrs I turned on the isolation switch and the compressor/condenser unit came "on" stright away without the fan unit. Went inside and turned on from the remote control and the Fan unit started. Turned off after 1 hr from remote and only fan unit turned off with compressor/condenser unit still running. Now I have turned off every thing from the isolation switch. During this time Air cond: was running as normal. Hope some one knows what has gone wrong. Thanks Richard

Thanks for your detailed information. But solution is very simple. The compressor contactor in out door unit. Struck. And hence, when you power on, without indoor commanding, the out door starts running.

Replace same type Contactor relay (In out door unit) immediately. Hope, it's helpful.

3 split units run from one compressor one is not cooling

If there is 3 indoor units from one condensing unit
(6 pipes at outdoor unit) this is classed as a multi unit

All units will run correctly as long as they all require same mode, cooling or heating, if one unit decides to heat it will shut down until master unit decides to heat then it will start, for each unit to individually heat and cool there would have to be 3 pipes to each indoor,

Kenmore window unit 17,500 BTU turn on and blows great cold air for 5 min then just fan running after that with no cold air.

Sorry to hear of your problem.

This is a common issue, and have just experience the same in my home. I am also an HVACR service tech, and will outline the most common problem that causes this.

If it blows cold air, your compressor is working fine. For a certain reason your compressor is turning off.

The compressor needs constant cooling of the motor and its windings. The compressor is also equipped with an overload switch (this turns the compressor off when temperatures inside get too hot). This is probably what is happening in your case.

The condenser coil (the outside coil that is silver with all the vertical fins) is where heat is rejected. A fan blows air over the condenser to help remove this heat. The condenser needs to be clean at all times.

First thing - check the condenser for dirt/leaves/cottonwood. If it is dirty, use compressed air, or water to clean the coil, being very careful not to damage or bend the fins, this will impeded operation and cause you to lose cooling capacity. Clean in a vertical motion with the fins.

If you find the condenser coil is clean, check the condenser fan motor (the blades are usually made of plastic) for broken or damaged blades, and then look into the unit to see if the condenser fan motor runs if in fact the blade is intact.

I believe if you follow these steps you are either going to find a dirty condenser, or a bad motor/fan blade.

The only other reason could be a low refrigerant charge not allowing the unit to cool properly, but this can only be verified with refrigeration gauges and a trained service technician, unless you can visually verify oil spotting in the unit, indicating the presence of a leak.

We have 2. LA125HV w/ 1 condensing 1. air handler

I could not find a "fault code" list for the LA125HV but for thier Multi Split Units LG lists code CH7 (C7) as "Indoor Unit is Set in Different Cool/Heat Operation Mode." So maybe your air-handler tihinks it's in Heat mode will the compressor is in Cool mode, or vice-versa....
