I have a 2002 hyundai santa fe. I want to change the oil filter on it but not the oil itself. I was told that to change the oil filter on this car you have to have a complete oil change. Is this true? I have never heard of something like this.

The 2004 Santa Fe transmission doesn't have a serviceable filter. There's one deep inside the transmission, but the transmission needs to be removed and disassembled to get to it. on the 2.7 the fuel pressure regulater is prone to leaking, worth checking it out

check for a round cylinder under engine that could be silver, white, orange, black, or blue.

Lift your Hyundai Santa Fe using a jack and then place the car on jack stands. If you don't have jack stands, drive the car onto a set of wheel ramps.
Pop the hood and remove the dipstick and oil filler cap. The dipstick is near the front engine compartment with the oil filler nearby.
Gather an oil drip pan, a 17-mm wrench, oil filter wrench, cleaning cloths and a new oil filter. Slide under your Santa Fe.

Change the Oil

• Locate the oil filter and oil drain plug underneath the car. The drain plug is on the bottom of the oil pan, and the filter is to the side of the oil pan.
• Remove the oil drain plug using the 17mm wrench. Pull the plug out quickly and let the oil drain for 10 to 15 minutes. Check the gaskets and threads for damage. Replace these components, if necessary.

Have the trans serviced, Have oil changed and new filter installedas soon as you can. to avoid having it damage itself. Just serviced, No sale on overhaul. No matter what they say or try to make out of the sedfiment in the pan. In fact, do'nt even mention what it's doing, you just want it service for now.. Good luck.

it sounds like a vaccum hose was inadvertently pulled off.
or the air cleaner boot has a gap somewere,
or maybe a wire connection was left undone.
