I had the same problem and tried everything. Here was my solution. Use a double-sided 2" rubber mallet. (Below is a photo of a similiar mallet.) Be sure to use caution while pressing with force. There is always the danger of cracking the crystal, however, my solution worked perfectly for me. I hope it does for you, too. Keep in mind that some watch backs screw on with a special tool, but if you snapped yours off, it should snap back on.

Start by lying the watch, crystal side down, on a vinyl padded notebook. Also make sure you have it aligned properly with the stem.

  1. Place one of the rubber mallet heads over the watch back.
  2. With all your force, push down on the other end of the mallet's head.
  3. Voila, you should hear a slight pop and the back will again be secure on the watch.

Hope this helps and you are as successful as I was with this tip.

How to re-close the back plate on a Dakota time/date warch?

Some of these watches have a notch where the stem goes. If you don't have the back in place it will not snap back into place. Also some are a slight screw back and will snap off, but when putting them back you must kind of screw it back in place. Good luck.

Guess watch how to take back off to change battery

You must first determine if the watch has a screw down back or snap off back. The top picture is a scre down back and the bottom is a snap off. If it is a screw down back you will need a watch case back opener to open. If is is a snap off you need to look around the back and find the little notch. you can then take something like a butter knife insert the edge between the case back and the case and snap the back off.

How to open the back

1

Determine the type of case back on the watch. Set the watch face down on a soft surface and look at the back. If it has slots, it is defined as a screw-back case. If it is smooth, it is defined as a snap-back case.
2

To open a screw-back watch, use the metal blade of a standard screwdriver to turn the slots counterclockwise. A case-back wrench, which can be purchased at watch-repair stores, can also be used. Set the metal tips of the wrench into the back's slots and turn it counterclockwise to open.
3

For a snap back case, place the metal blade of a standard screwdriver in the indent between the watch and the case. Gently apply pressure to lift the case up and off of the watch.
4

Close the case back by setting it back onto the watch. For snap-back cases, line up the indent on the side of the watch and press gently on the case back to close. For screw-back cases, use the screwdriver blade or case-back wrench to turn the slots clockwise, thereby closing the case shut.

How do you open the back of a movado watch

It could require several tools.

If it is a screw down back you will need a case-back opener (sold at Harbor Freight for $2.99). It is adjustable to fit most case backs. Make sure the wrench fits the notches on the back and rotate counter-clockwise
If it is a snap on case use a knife type case back opener.
Look for a small indention on the case-back that allows you to snap the back off. (some watches have the indention, some do not)
You need to be very careful not to scratch the back

You may need a case-back press to put the snap case back on. Some you can snap on with your fingers other will require the press.

The back doesn't seem to want to snap back in

Try a very small dab of a very light lubrican on the sealing edges.

If you haven't already tried it, press the edge of the watch back using two fingers and move them appart until they meet again.

Season with a lot of parience... good luck!

I just need to replace the battery, how do I open the back, does it twist off or snap off.

Some are twist or snap off..We get so many that are pressure back cover.Sometimes it can be done with a knife and there is a small hindge where you can snap it off with a knife so easy but the problem will be putting it back on because you have to snap it back on with pressure and it can only be done with a machine. If it is a twist that should be easy, all you do is put both thumbs around the lid and press and twist to the right and it should open. This lid should close tight after you put the battery or the water will get into the watch and damage the watch mechanism.

How do i snap the backplate back on my buulova

If you cannot snap the back on with your fingers the only safe way to get the back on again is to use a watch press. This is an expensive tool that most jewelers will have. I strongly recommend you take it to a jeweler (may want to call first to make sure their company will do it because most chain stores will not work on most brands). They should not charge you.
If you are determined to do it yourself then you can try wrapping a wide pliers with duct tape or cloth and applying pressure on the front and back of watch to pop it on. WARNING: this is very dangerous for your watch. DO NOT apply pressure to the crystal, try to put the pressure on the stell lugs instead.

Skagen ladies watch

izzi, I assume you have a snap back back that won't snap back in place. I had the same problem with a Timex EXpedition. The solution should be similar. See my post" http://www.fixya.com/support/t190459-watch_battery_replacement and also the site I reference there. http://www.online-batteries.co.uk/whichbattery.shtml Good luck, Richard
