Screen is blank?
Do you mean you won't see anything at all like the signup colorful screen that says "ARCHOS Entertaining your way" ?
If your battery is full charged (did the CHG LED green light blink when it finished charging?), and you have a blank screen, do you have a serious problem indeed. If your unit is under warranty your best and only way is contact Archos.
If when you turn it on, it takes you to the Recovery screen (white screen, usually says Code 101) then try to Format the HDD, download the latest firmware from www.archos.com for your unit, copy it from your PC to the Archos, let it finish the process wth the power supply connected, and once it's done the unit should be back working fine with the latest fimware.
But if you definetely do not see anything but a blank screen when you turn it off, your problem is more serious than a simple firmware upgrade, and you need to contact Archos tech support.
im having the same problem, people say reset it and put it into recovery mode (it tells you in the quick start guide) or that didnt work for me so im trying charging it up fully. also mine makes a noise while trying to turn on, are you having this problem to?
I fixed my son's 605 4 GB had Recovery code (104) on it. This might work for other error codes too. These are the steps i followed * Use thecomputerfor this process that you always used for this archos Archos should be plugged in toPc before starting the process. * Download the firware Upgrade 2.1 * Plug the Archos toPc * When the white option screen comes up pick the format disk * Wait until all done do not pick any option on archos after format is done Pc should recognize your archos in 5 seconds * Put the firmware in root section of the archos not in any folder. * Safely remove the usb for Archos from your pc first and then unplug thecable. * Do not pick any option on the Archos screen * Just turn it off from the power button by holding it until it turns off * Wait about 5 minutes and plug it back to pc * it will come up with white screen again but this time it will start Update you will see the progress bar moving, wait until it is all done, it will shut off. Turn it back on and your archos will be back to normal
I have found a solution for this issue, if you hold down the volume button and the power button for several seconds the Archos goes into a restore type mode. You then plug it into your computer and download the latest firmware update and cut and paste it onto the archos removable hard drive icon that appears in my computer. It will take a few minutes to update but then it will work perfectly.
Once you format your device it wipes out most of the information on your archos including the Firmware. You need to connect your archos to your computer and download the firmware from the main Archos site. Copy the firmware to your device. Diconnect the device from your computer using the safe disconnect feature. When your archos restarts it will either automatically recognize the new firmware and update itself or it will bring up the repair screen. One version of this screen has the options "do nothing", "repair device", or "format". Choose repair device. This will start the update sequence.
The other version of the white screen will say your system is damaged and show the options "done" or "repair device". Again select repair device and the update sequence will start. You may have to do this more than once in a repair session.
I have had to do this to my own device several times so save a copy of the firmware and your plugins on your computer to download back to the device if you have to do this again. Hopefully the next Archos update will take care of these annoying issues
I hope this helps!
I heard of that problem, it could be your charger circuit and it could be your battery. There's a interesting forum post on this at www.newmp3technology.com: http://www.newmp3technology.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=700
But here's something else: I'll buy your xs202s if you want.. :) For a reasonable defect-price.
I have one but the display is broken.
Had no luck trying to find that obscure 2" 128x128 backlit greyscale korean display in the IC-market here in Europe.
