It sounds like the door spring had broken. Take the covers off and it should be apparent what had happened. It may be a part you can get at the hardware store or it may be an OEM part.

You should be able to find the right kit by calling 1-877-477-7278 with your full model number.

Your complete model number will be KCMS1555SBL0, KCMS1555SSS0, or KCMS1555SWH0 without the spaces.
