I recently just bought a new laptop (compaq presario cq56) it has a webcam and all but its says please turn on the webcam, how do i turn on the camera?

This document pertains to HP Notebook PCs with Windows 7 . A webcam is built into the frame above the display screen on some HP notebooks. Since there is no power button or desktop icon for the webcam, the only way to test and use the webcam is to open a webcam application. Many of the applications used in Vista, such as CyberLink YouCam and QuickPlay, are incompatible with Windows 7. However, HP offers the MediaSmart suite for Windows 7 which includes a webcam application. HP MediaSmart Webcam can record videos, take snapshot photos, add text and animations to the image, track your movements with an avatar, and allow you to adjust the settings of the webcam. Many people use their webcam in a video chat. You can use HP MediaSmart Webcam with most third party video chat programs. I'm trying to disable the internal webcam on my new Pavilion dv7, so I can use my Logitech stand alone webcam

You can try to go to the device manager to disable it. So if you know the name of your Built-in webcam it's not gonna be hard for you to look for that device.

If you are using Windows XP
1. Click start button
2. Click run
3. Type devmgmt.msc then press enter
4. Now look for your webcam, (I guess it's under Imaging)
5. Right click your webcam device and click on disable (it may ask you to restart the computer)

Windows Vista
1. Click start button
2. Click start search box
3. Type devmgmt.msc then press enter
4. Now look for your webcam, (I guess it's under Imaging)
5. Right click your webcam device and click on disable (it may ask you to restart the computer)

In Windows 7

Cant turn my built in webcam on??

Hi,

This is known Webcam issue in DV6000 notebooks. To resolve or narrow down the issue, we have to check few things.

First open Device Manager.

Please follow these steps to open Device Manager:

1. Right Click on 'My Computer' icon on Desktop and choose Properties.
2. The System properties Window opens.
3. Click Hardware tab and then click the Device Manager button.

Expand + Imagining Devices and check if the HP Webcam is listed under it.

If Webcam is not listed there, then you have to contact HP to get the BIOS update.

If it is listed there, right click on it and select Disable. Again right click on it and select Enable.

Now open any applications like Quickplay and check if Webcam is working or not.

Please reply me if that won't resolve the issue, I can provide more work arounds

There should be an icon on your desktop for the webcam, if not try checking in your device manager to see if it is enabled..go to control panel>system>hardware>device manager It should be under the imaging devices.
