When loading god of war it asks for the format disc

You may need to take apart you PS2 and rotate the white gear about 1/8 of a turn or so and test with just the DVD lid on before you put it back together. If you still get the error try another 1/8 of a turn and so on. Detailed instructions and pictures can be found here on how to take apart your PS2

Your Playstation 2 is having a problem reading the disc because of those scratches. Try to fix those scratches by following the steps from this website : click here. If you want you can also buy cd repair kits to fix the scratches. I checked a website where you can see which commercial cd repair kit is more effective. You can find it in this link : click here

the disc migh be scrached, check ur disc first, try putting an audio cd format disc and play the song,
so there is no problem with the lens

your CD is damaged somewhere for sure. the best solution is to copy the disc using computer burner and play the burned (copyed) CD.

The problem can be with your scanning lens that might be dirty.Clean your PS2 lens first.Watch this video to learn how to clean PS2 lens.

Sounds like a defect in the disc. Possibly a scratch or blemish.
If your other games dont hiccup it's most likely the "god of war" disc
