My subwoofer is connected correctly (test mode it works fine). The Denon 589 receiver, however, when everything is set up and ready to go, doesnt seem to send any output to it, so there is no base sound. There are no switches on my subwoofer (it's just a basic one), and all of the settings on the receiver indicate that there is a subwoofer connected. Someone suggested to me that I need to get a subwoofer that has a power cord (my current subwoofer just connects to the input, but it is not powered). Any suggestions? Do I need to get a "powered" subwoofer?

What's the make and model of the subwoofer? It sounds like it's a passive (unpowered) speaker.

I seriously doubt your test mode worked fine on the subwoofer level adjustmnent.

Get a powered (active) sub.

My sub ksw10 do not work with avr589.sub is fine.av receiver works on all 5 channels.with the remote i am unable to adjust all the parameters.

http://usa.denon.com/DocumentMaster/US/AVR-589-OM-E_105A.pdf you'll need to access the receivers speaker Set-up menu. you can download the user manual here. my opinion is that your speaker setup in the menu is not correct. make sure that you have Subwoofer yes selected in the menu, also if you selected ( Large ) as your left and right Main speakers it will not allow you to select Subwoofer ( yes/no ). you must select ( Small ) and then select Subwoofer Yes. also you can connect all speakers and perform Auto setup and it will recognize the sub when a test tone is emitted.

Cant get my sub to work on my denon avr2808 and dont think it ever has it doesnt even work on the test signal

Hello
There are four possibilities that the subwoofer doesn't gives any aoutput. They are:

• Subwoofer's power not turned

on.

•The "Subwoofer" setting at

"Speaker configuration" is set to

"No".

•The subwoofer is not properly

connected.

•The subwoofer's volume is
turned off.
Go to its manual setupscreen, come to speaker setup, speaker confuguration, come towards Sub Woofer, select "Yes" and press OK.

My Denon AVR 589 does not seem to send any signal to my sub, I have try another working sub and it does the same. I just notice this week that my sub was not working. I have check on the amp setting and...

Is there a switch on the back of the receiver that will switch the sub signal from digital to analog? And the same switch might be on the subwoofer itself.

Hope that helps if not just reply back.
Thanks

No picture with cable to denon AVR-589

Long and painful answer!!! However, in the end, you need to bypass HDMI thru your receiver and go direct to the TV. Connect Digital Coaxial or Optical for audio to your receiver. Your version of HDMI in your receiver is not compatable with today's HDMI version. Yours is 1.1a and the current version is 1.3b going to 1.4. If you want detailed info as to "why", just google "HDMI 1.1 problems" you can read for hours! Sorry for the bad news! However, it is what it is. Hope this helps. If you need further help with setup, post a comment and I can give you further help.

Connection problem with HDMI cables on Denon AVR-589

Hello,
I want to clairify you install, you sat you have I an HDMI cable running from the Time Warner Cable box to the AVR-589, going in to the TV/CBL input. From the Denon AVR-589, I have an HDMI cable running from the output to my Toshiba RV525U television.

Check the connection at the TV, if as you indicated above you have an HDMI cable from the HDMI out from the Denon to an HDMI output on the TV, if this is the case you need to have that HDMI cable plugged into an input on the TV not an output

I have Harman Kardon speakers and subwoofers connected to a Denon AVr 1508 receiver. All my five speakers are working but my subwoofer doesnt work. I m pretty sure I have connected the subwoofer properly...

There is a setting under your speaker setup to turn the subwoofer on. If speakers are set to small it auto matically sets the subwoofer to ON. If the speakers are set to large it turns the subwoofer off but you can manually adjust.
