Usually the laptop just picks it up without any setup, but if it doesn't you may want to head to BIOS and run a Hardware Changes scan or something similar, depending on the version of your BIOS, or try to check the RAM by having the laptop to Count RAM.
Make sure that the new RAM you added is compatible with the system, otherwise it may not see it at all.

How do i get my asus 1005hab to recognize the new memory

there is no procedure to recognicze newly installed ram, the computer is supposed to detect it automatically. for some reason the memory is incompatible with your computer. are you sure you havent exceeded the maximum ram capacity? if your not over the max ram, then there is just something differrent about that ram stick that your computer doesnt like. perhaps the asus website will have a list of ram modules that have been tested ont that model and are guaranteed compatible.

Deactivate ComputerTrace on my Inspiron 1501

Computrace has nothing to do with adding RAM to the system, it merely enables the theft reporting capability of the system (It basically will call home to computrace if stolen)
Should just be as simple as:
  1. Disconnect power and remove battery, then hold power button 10 seconds to release any stored charge in system.
  2. Install RAM at a 30 degree angle till gold contacts completely disappear into slot, then press RAM down till it latches
  3. Power on and enter setup to recognize new RAM configuration, save and exit
If system will not post with upgrade RAM installed then RAM may not be compatible, or BIOS may need to be flashed to current version before installing upgrade modules.

I want to upgrade the standard 512mb RAM to 2GB. once installed do I just restart the computer or do I need to do something to allow the computer to recognize the new RAM?

Hi,

You should be fine to just turn the computer on straight away as soon as you have installed your new RAM. The computer will recognize the new upgrade straight away provided you have got memory that is compatible with the desktop computer.

When you upgrade the RAM take the old RAM out and make sure your new RAM runs at the same speed as your old RAM.

From what i can remember the maximum RAM speed that an HP pavilion supports is 400MHz although it could well be 333MHz.

The RAM that's installed in the desktop at this moment in time will have the speed on it so you check with that.

Regards.

Upgrading ram on laptop, new ram not recognized.

remove the bios battery for a few seconds...and place it back on ...this will make it see the new ram memory modules...if you are sure they are compatible ..they will work .....in fact ..the ddr1 333 512 M is more that compatible with your system and it will work after you remove the battery ...\ my recommendation is to reinstall a clean operation system after you boot up ...and format the C partition too...this have to be done after memory changes to get the max out of them ..

I have an asus k8v-mx motherboard running only 512 mb of ram what type of ram would suit this mother board and could i fit a 1 x 2mb ram instead of 2 x 1mb?

Dear Sir,

*********** board is Asus old p4 Mother board. It supports maximum 1GB RAM of DDR 400(DDR1). According to your post your computer having only one 512 MB working RAM. If you want good purformance you can upgrade your computer by purchasing another 512MB DDR400 RAM and install it on another RAM slot.If your computer have only one working RAM slot, you can purchase 1GB DDR400 RAM & install it on older RAM place. I think it solves your problem.if you have any problem come back with more information. I will try to assist you more accurately.

good luck

Hard disk upgrade for Gateway mx7118

check Gateway's support for possible help here. Most laptops can be upgraded substantially, RAM or Hard drive.

Gateway's site- I didn't see any BIOS upgrades. http://support.gateway.com/support/drivers/search.asp?ref=step&st=browse&platform=10022&model=10651&os=&type=

Perhaps someone on this site has made such an upgrade and can give you a definitive answer.

Computer keeps cycling off and on

Load defaults on the bios screen, save and exit, reboot. see if it recognizes your newly installed ram. also if you have 4 memory slots, try using different configuration on the placement of the ram modules. Like if you have four memory slots trying, try using the first and 2nd slot, if no go then try using the 1st and 3rd slot and also remember to always load bios deafaults everytime you reconfigure the ram placement or size.
