Wrt54g can be used as either a wireless router or access point. I am not familiar with your broadband service, but if it has a data port just connect it to Internet port.
Hi leftella, First of all, I would like to ask you few questions.
1.Who is your ISP(Internet service provider) like verizon, Bell, Comcast?
2.How many ports you see at the back of the Modem?like WAN, Ethernet, LAN, DSL, Data? 3.How many ports you see at the back of the Router?like Internet,Ethernet,WAN, LAN?
4.What is the make and model of the laptop with which you want to go wireless?
To setup the router you don't need any CD, just need to connect the Modem to router and router to your computer with hard wire Initially and then after setup, you can go wireless.
are you connecting the laptop hard wired or wirelessly?
for wired connection, just plug the ethernet cable from the router to the laptop and it should work fine.
for the wireless connection, check on the wireless network connection. for xp, click on start> control panel> network connections> right click wireless network connection> then click on view available wireless network> then select your network.. for secure wireless connection, type the security key then click connect. :-)
think you have to connect a cable to the ethernet adapter of your desktop in order for you to connect to the wrt54g. uless you have a wireless lan on your desktop. also check your channels. and manually config your router through 192.168.1.1.......
first need to reset your router push the reset button at the back of the router for for 10 sec. then open internet explorer type 192.1681.1. enter type password admin enter ,..configure again your router enter the IP address. , Subnet mask , and DNS put the setting Static IP ,next click mac address clone and click "clone your pc mac" then click wireless at wireless network mode put it mix, at wireless channel put to the highest ghz. then after that check your line by trying to conect to the other pc using your UTP cable if it is working connect it again to your laptop
Remember that router will use only 54Mb of bandwidth which will be shared across all users (as long as router is used as access point). Simple mathematics: 1 user = 54Mbps 2 users = 27Mbps 10 users = 5Mbps
Also please note you might have further probems with channel interferences between users when you have all users in the common area
Also remember that 54Mbps will be only wireless Speed. They all will share common Internet connection
