If you have downloaded pictures from your card to the computer the memory card needs to be reformatted to the camera it is being used in. The camera and computer firmware and software are not compatible, you might get away without formatting the memory card a few times but eventually the performance suffers to the point the camera can no longer find clean space to write to. As a rule once you download pictures the card needs formatting.

SOURCE: Memory card formatted in error

when you have formatted a memory card in error the pictures can be retrieved again. using and your pc. You can download and application online to do this. Just do not take any pictures with the memory stick as you will over write the lost pictures. I am using card recovery to find my lost pictures.

SOURCE: CAMERA READS -CARD ERROR-AFTER INSERTING A NEW MEMORY CARD

First, make sure that the new memory card does not have the protect tab in the lock position. The new card must be unlocked and formatted before your camera will be able to use it. Also, make sure that the size card that you have purchased has not over shot the ability of your camera. I think that a 2 GB card is as large as you can use. Just because the card fits into the slot does not mean that the camera will address it!

SOURCE: my Canon powershot s400 camera won't read memory card

First, remove the card, and look in the slot for any bent flash card pins. If you see any, don't fret, it's possible that you can fix this yourself. See this article on how to unbend flash card pins.

But if no pent pins are seen, then the camera's clock battery has worn out, and is likely causing this problem. Unfortunately this battery is internal to the camera. But Canon will fix this for you (for the S400 only) for free, with free shipping. Please see the Canon advisory for your camera here.

I have a canon powershot sd 1200 is. I tried to transfer the photos from the camera into a laptop using the memory card; t didn't work. Put the card back into the camera. Now camera says...

This sounds like your card has some type of error that is causing the images not to be seen. My suggestion is that you go to your local chain pharmacy (such as Walgreens, CVS, Duane Reade) and put your memory card into their photo kiosk machine to read the pictures. Hopefully their machine will be able to read the memory card and then you can have them copy your pictures to a CD/DVD. After this is done then you would be able to reformat the card and clear the error. If the card still does not read or work then it seems you will need to look into a service that does data recovery.

Good Luck,
Paul

When I put the memory card in, it says Memory Error. How do I fix this?

This problem is so common that there's a whole blog about it here:
http://hubpages.com/hub/Canon_Powershot_Memory_Card_Error_Fix

It seems that the camera gives this error when it has problems reading/writing the card. The fixes they suggest there are to do with cleaning the contacts. It's pretty easy to clean the contacts on the memory card, but much harder to clean the camera. I don't suggest following the instruction to spray cleaner into the slot... that sounds like a recipe for getting it all over the inside of the camera!

I would start by cleaning the memory card's contacts. You can either use a solvent such as Methyl Hydrate (US) (= Methylated Spirit (UK)) and a kitchen towel, or you can actually rub the contacts clean with an eraser (US) (= rubber (UK)). It's probably worth looking inside the camera too, to see if any of the contacts are obviously bent in the card slot. I've seen that in a Nintendo DS which is similar. If a contact is bent, nothing's going to work unless you can get it back in place.

My camera keeps reading memory card error, i took it to the shop and they put a new memory card in and it still read memory card error

Take a look inside your camera's CF card slot. I suspect that you may have a bent pin in there. If so, don't fret. Although professional repair would be more costly than the value of the camera, there is a very good chance that you can repair this yourself. Please see this.

Panasonic Lumix will not read memory card.

Hi,

try formatting your cd card in your Fz. If it keeps telling you memory error, try using it in windows, put data on it, to see wether it can hold them and read them too.
Happeded to me once too, format did the job. Just format it in the camera, not your pc.

When i turn the camera on....it saids memory card requires formatting. then continues to say formatting will delete everything on memory card. i press continue and nothing happens. goes back to say memory...

Use a computer with memory card reader, and read the card using a computer.

If the computer says the same and does not read the card, then the pictures inside the card are usually lost.

If computer instead does read the card, then transfer all picture on computer using the memory card reader, and format the card using complete formatting.

If you need to use the camera tonight, then buy a spare memory card.
If the camera returns same error on different card, then you may have a faulty memory card slot, but that is quite uncommon.

Camera not reading SD card after being removed from my reader

Put the SD card back into the card reader. Are you files still there when the computer tries to read them?
If they are not, then it is very likely the card is corrupt. This happens when the card is removed before the computer is done reading/writing to the card.

There is also a SLIM chance the card is just bad.

Memory card error

do one thing. as per canons manual:
if any error is displayed when using your memory card do a low level formating of memory card.
but what to do for pictures in it? get a memory card reader from market. its very cheap. its also advisable to use memory card reader to transfer your photos rather than using direct connectiin to computer.
after doing a low level formating then transfer photos inside memory card from system, put it in ur camera, then enjoy.
hope you are clear with your problem. please give a feedback.

Card Error

I would first back up all the pictures on the card, and then while you have the memory card in the card reader re-format the card and put it back in the camera. If you are still having problems the electrical contacts on the inside on the camera may be dirty. Use some canned air and blast out anything that may be in there.
