I removed the front cover that surrounds the display screen and depressed the reset button. Doing that brought the system completely back to life with complete functionality restored.
Hello there: please follow these instruction and this should help if not let me know and i willcontinue to get you more information for you nstructions
Step 1
Calibrate
the screen of the Garmin StreetPilot C340. If the touch screen does not
seem to respond when you hit it with your finger or a stylus, you may
need to calibrate it. To do this, turn the unit off and then hold down
the "Power" key for approximately one minute. You will see a
calibration screen come up that will recalibrate the GPS unit.
Step 2
Reset
the Garmin StreetPilot C340. If your GPS unit is not responding or is
stuck on a particular screen, it may need to be reset in order to
operate. To reset, remove the face plate of the unit by gently prying
it off. Locate the "Reset" button under the face plate and press down
in order to restart the device.
Step 3
Change
the fuse of the Garmin StreetPilot C340. If the fuse blows on the GPS,
you will need to make a replacement using an ACG/3AG 2 amp fuse.
Unscrew the adapter cord at the end and remove the fuse found there.
Put in the new fuse to see if this returns function to the unit.
Step 4
Update
the software for your Garmin StreetPilot C340. If the GPS is not
providing you with correct directional information, you may need to
update the software or download new maps onto the device. Connect the
Garmin StreetPilot C340 with the USB cord to your PC and log on the Garmin website for available updates.
I would suspect that the cars 12 volt socket is dead or that the charger cord for the car is defective, use a DC volt meter and test for 12 volts in the car socket, if that is ok replace the car charger for your Garmin, u can buy them cheap on ebay.
It has a 12 volt power cable for the internal battery. Do you have the cable - refer to the owners manual (free download via the Garmin site) for more info. The internal battery is not normally replaced.
I had the same problem on a trip. Required two fixes and once I did this the unit worked fine.
1. Replace the fuse in the car adapter (reason it wasn't charging when I used it in the car).
2. See the users manual on page 31 regarding resetting your C340. http://www8.garmin.com/manuals/StreetPilotc340_OwnersManual.pdf
I have a 100v A/C power / charger unit for my garmin C340 GPS that I use to charge my Garmin's battery every day. I can use thj adapter to run the GPS, or just turn it off and let it charge the GPS. But it connects dirctly to the Garmin GPS unit, not to the cradle like the Cigarrette lighter unit does. .
Only use Garmin approved power connector either AC or DC (cigarette lighter adapter), otherwise you risk ruining your unit. The DC power adapter actually step down the voltage from 12vdc to 5vdc. Using anything other than a Garmin approved adapter can fried the unit.
I had the same problem recently... What I did was open the front casing and hit the reset button under the cover, then it turned on while plugged into the car adapter.
