I can hear a clicking sound when the camera is in play or record mode. When I play a prerecorded tape the video jumps or bounces. Also if I record and play it back the video bounces.

This is a cracked gear in the tape transport system and can usually be repaired fairly inexpensively. However, it's not a user serviceable problem and will need to be repaired by a qualified service technician.

My name is Rick and I'm a professional repair technician with over 20 years in the business and have repaired many of these. I'm semi retired and work from home with little overhead so I can keep repair costs low. If you decide to have the camera repaired, please click HERE for a directory listing that suits your needs.

to hear the audio fold back in prerecording mode you will need a tape that still has a security tab in it if not put some tape over the whole or even block the hole up

supply the tape unit with a good signal and then hold down the pause button and press the record and play button at the same time. you will then be able to monitor the sound you are about to record. use headphones as this to stops background noise in your ears and allows you to focus on the sound, "its another world inside your cans" adjust the input level until just peaking into the red. when you are ready to record leave the record button alone and the stop button and the play button just release the pause button and away you go. to stop press stop to stop recording say to cut out an advert or something just press pause.

After recording and replaying, the picture is "sliced up". I've tried cleaning head with dry tape, seemed to help but still there. Trouble is it seems to vary each time I play the same tape.

Do not use a head cleaner - they can damage the heads. Insert a brand new high quality tape and perform a record. Let it record through the entire tape. Then, play back an original prerecorded tape and check playback.

My canon camera seems to work fine in record mode. The LCD shows the video and the timestamp, and tape is moving. Yet in playback mode no matter what Tape I use (even if I know the tape has video on it)...

The playback head is dirty. Insert a brand new tape into the drive and perform a record, through the entire tape until it reaches the end. Then play a pre-recorded tape.

My JVC DR-MV150B plays prerecorded VHS tapes fine.

Try opening the front hatch of the tape by pressing the small, square button on the right or left (short) side of the tape. Check the black tape inside for any marks, dirt, scratches, tears, etc. If the tape is fine then your unit needs to be cleaned with a tape cleaner available at any electronics specialty or retail store. Good luck to you!
