The output ic inside of the deck is probably bad. unless you are good a desoldering and soldering it will need to be repaired by a professional.

Kenwood cd player keeps flashing "protect" when i turn it on. How do i fix this?

The "Protect" message indicates that the unit has detected a short or surge in the wiring to the unit. Check your ground and make sure that the speaker wires are not the problem. (Any broken wires or speaker wires that touch the case of the CD player could cause the issue.)

If there are no obvious wiring problems, then the unit has an internal short. That should be resolved by sending the unit for service if it is under warranty.

Please add a comment with the model number of the CD player for additional information. I hope this helps.

there is no code. protect means you have a short in the speakers or speaker wires, or a bad output ic.

I am installing kenwood kdc-mp443u. it is flashing protect and i can't remove it. can you help please?

A speaker wire has a short-circuit, crossed, or touches the chassis of the vehicle it activates the protection mode function.
? Wire or insulate the speaker cable properly and press the reset button. If the "PROTECT" code does not disappear, consult your nearest service center.
I have attached a link for you which is for a free Kenwood KDC-MP443U instruction manual download. Nice receiver by the way!

Protect code

make sure you have no bare or shorted speaker wires and check your speakers to make sure they are all good. if that all checks out, you probably have a bad output ic.

Security

"Protect" isn't for security on a Kenwood; it's caused by a problem with the speaker output. There may be a defect in the CD player, or you may have a blown speaker or a shorted speaker wire in the vehicle. Try disconnecting all the speakers and see if the unit still shows "protect" when you turn it on. If it still shows the "protect" message with no speakers connected, the unit needs to be serviced; if not, re-connect the speakers one at a time until you find out which one is causing the problem.
