SOURCE: compaq presario v3000 laptop..doesnt recongize the hard drive

I beleive that you are trying to install retail versions of XP which will not be able to detect the Hard Drive in the Notebook as it is a SATA drive and Windows XP will not be having the drivers for SATA Hard Drives by default.
In this situation, I recommend you to check and disable the SATA Native support  option available in the BIOS.
Start the Notebook and start tapping the F10 key which will take you to to the BIOS Setup window.
In this, go to the System Configuration tab using the Arrow keys and select the option as Disabled next to SATA Native Support.
Press the F10 key again to save the settings done and exit BIOS.
Now, you should be able to use the Windows XP disk and install Windows XP Operating System in your Notebook without any issues.
By disabling the SATA Native Feature, the Hard Drive of the Notebook will be detected as a IDE Drive because of which we will be able to install XP without any issues.

Donot Re-Enable this feature in the BIOS again as the Operating System may not boot. Let the option next to SATA Native Support be Disabled.
Hope this helps...

SOURCE: compaq presario sr1330nx cover removal

There are two Phillips-head hex screws on the back of the tower. After you unplug everything, remove those two screws and slide the side panel out toward the back, then lift it off. Compaq has a manual online if you need other things after you get the panel off. Here's the link:

SOURCE: WHATS THE HARD DRIVE LIMIT OF A COMPAQ PRESARIO SR1315CL

The motherboard of your computer has two IDE and two SATA connections.
There is no upper limit of the drive size (at least nothing you have to worry about if you have WInXP, Vista or Linux installed)

Attention!!! - I heard from many people that HP (Compaq) has disabled the SATA connectors on your motherboard (ASUS A7V8X-LA)!!!
If you want to be on the safe side (and I would definitely recommend that) go and get an IDE drive. There are many good drives around with 500GB of storage.

If you have any more questions, just come back here and leave a comment - I'm happy to help.

Need apower supply and hard drive for my compaq presario 1103WM. how old is this unit

It must be up to 8 years old ish as it has XP installed.

17-inch flat screen CRT monitor NEW* Intel Celeron D Processor 3252.53 GHz, 533 MHz FSB, 256 KB L2 cache 256 MB DDR SDRAM CD-RW (48x32x48) 40 GB hard drive 9-in-1 memory card reader 10/100Base-T networking interfaceIntegrated graphics with 64 MB shared video memory *The new Celeron D processors are more efficient than the old Celeron processors. The New 325 D benchmarks faster than the old Celeron 2.7 GHz processor.

Almost any IDE hard drive will work, up to 540Gb and any reasonable power supply should be OK. Check ebay and also google for a power supply.
Hope that helps.

The compaq will not boot up

try loading your OS cd but it will wipe out all the files on your drive. if this wont still work, then it might be prob with the hard drive itself. replace hard drive.

My Compaq Presario SR1103wm doesn't have cd-rom insalled. Or so the system tells me,I believe it because I can't get it to read one single disk. How do I install it?

If your not familiar with the insides of your cpu. You can purchase an external cd/dvd/rw drive and hook it up. usually with a usb or supplied cable. To install depending on type and brand just follow the instruction that come with it. They do work very well.

My usb keeps sayin power surge on hub ports

You may need to upgrade to a higher wattage power supply, which would also help with the performance of your computer. Or try updating either your system bios or USB drivers.

Lost factory disks for my Compaq Persario sr1103wm know were I could get a new one?

Most HP and Compaq desktop PCs that ship with Windows Vista and XP do not come with recovery discs. Instead, they use a partition on the hard drive. To access a hard drive recovery, turn on the computer and repeatedly press F10 (XP) or F11 (Vista) until a Recovery window opens.

COMPAQ PRESARIO SR1010V!!!

Ouch! The answer to your question is yes. The hard drive inside the tower has all your information on it (regardless of the condition of the rest of the PC) and can be transferred to another computer by making it a 'slave' drive. Then the computer's main HD (also called 'master' hard drive) can usually read from it. Rest assured, your data is still there.

If this helps, please rate this as "FixYa".

Good luck!
