I can't find an instruction manual for my doorbell extender.. On the back of the plug in part it says:
IQ AMERICA, SOUTH BEND, IN
MODEL WD-2044-ACGPN
We have the small part mounted directly above the wired doorbell and the extender plugged in about 50 feet away but it won't work and we can't figure out how to adjust it.
We tried looking for the manufacturer & the model online with no sucess.

This is caused by either the distance between the doorbell and display unit being too great or the construction of your property like brick walls absorbing the radio signal. To overcome these issues you can add a WiFi booster that you can help increase the RF signal (radio Frequency). You will need to consult the instructions to allow you to setup the doorbell to booster.

Do you mean the IQ America wireless doorbell? If the product is the WD 1140 - A doorbell, then the push-button transmitter uses a CR2032 Lithium battery. You will need to unhook the push-button unit from the base and then pry the front cover up to access the battery compartment. Use a small flat-blade screwdriver.
We had a similar problem with a wired doorbell. There is a diode in the doorbell itself that causes the chime to ring fully. If the diode is backwards, you get just a small tone and can only hear the full chime if you hold the button down. If this sounds like your problem, open up the doorbell at the button end (or have an electrician do it) and reverse the diode.
