Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. Dirt Devil 12 Amp HEPA filer vacuum cleaner. It sounds to me like you may have a 2 motor system according to the picture and it also sounds like it could be the bottom motor of which if it is not working well then it may need replacement – there is really nothing you can do for the brushroll motor other than replacing it. Question? Do you have any suction from the main motor? If you do then it definitely is the brushroll motor that needs replacement. You can always check your Royal owners manual under the trouble shooting guide or you can contact the Royal cust serv dept listed below. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.

Vacuum stopped while sweeping the floor

it is either the switch or the motor buy a brand new switch to put on it and if that does not solve the problem then the motor is just trash but the switches go out on these kinds of vacuum cleaners all of the time so that is probably the problem but if not the vacuum is trash

Spark caused vaccum to turn off

Some vacuums have a reset button you can push. Some have a fuse in the power line that may have blown. You will have to follow the power all the way through the vacuum checking the voltage at each switch, connection, etc. I often unhook the power & neutral wires from the motor and hook up a power cord with connectors on the end directly to the motor to make sure the motor is good. You must be very knowledgable with motors, switches, electrical testing, etc. If not this repair is best left to a professional.

I have a brand new KitchenAid mixer that is 5 years old and never used. I unpacked it this morning and it won't turn on, no noise, no movement, nothing. Help.

Please check manually the motor and see if it moves freely. Now make sure that the power plug and the connections to the switch are not tampered , check the continuity of the plug to the switch and to the motors.
If you notice any dirt or insects make sure that this has not clogged on the motor. If so clean using a degreasing spray- WD40- would be recommended.
If the motor is tight , lightly oil or degrease using the spray while manually rotating.
Once this is done connect the power while taking all precaution. Use the meter to check the flow of the circuit to the switch and to the motor. If there is a trip switch see that it is reset.
If there is power to the motor and still it does not work the brushes might be dirty and might need a cleaning/ reset.

The vacuum stopped working while i was using it...did all the troubleshooting tips.. still not working.

Sometimes the vacuum will overheat, if this happens the vacuum will shut down to protect it from damage.

Unplug the vacuum, and let it sit unused 30 minutes.

Please let me know if this has solved your problem.

It's as if it isn't plugged in at all.

Try a different electricity outlet first. If that doesn't solve the problem, more than likely it is the power switch which is not engaging. It could also be the motor but I doubt it since you probably did not see smoke or smell any burning smells. Call the Dyson Helpline, they will refer you to an authorized dealer in your area. The repair dealer will inspect the switch to see why it is not engaging and fix it for you. The dealer will also be able to fix or replace your motor if it turns out that it is the motor.

Will not turn on

I assume you tried a different outlet? Otherwise you could have a problem with the cord, switch or motor. You will just have to check it over to find out what went bad.

Hoover only two years old and it stopped working!

My Hoover self propelled wind tunnel was working great until a couple of days ago when it started shutting on and off while vacuuming. I thought it was the outlet but when I plugged it into two different outlets it did the same thing. Then finally yesterday it just stopped working it won't even turn on when plugged in. I thought it was the switch but it is not. Is it the motor? Has the motor burned out? Do I need to buy a new one? Help!!

I think you are right, if it is not the switch then it would be the motor. Does it smell bad like a burning smell? If so it is definitely the motor and then @ that point you may want to get an estimate for motor replacement, and keep in mind of what you spent on the vacuum versus what the cost of repair might be. My own rule of thumb is if it cost more than ½ of the price I paid for it then you have to decide – do I want to pay the repaired cost for the vacuum or do I want to purchase a new one. Just a suggestion... You may want to check with your local vac dealer. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.

Bissell Proheat

Things to check are the cord, switch, and the motor.
