I recently purchased a Seagate constellation es model number ST32000644NS. I installed the hard drive in a case and plugged it into the computer. I think went to computer management and disk management and attempted to initialize the disk. It responds with a prompt telling me that "The device is not ready."

I have a seagate external hard drive. There isn't a model # on it. The part # is 9y7685-500. When I connect it the computer nothing happens. The computer doesn't recconize it. Do you have solutions? In...

You have an issue. The part number you gave is for a 12V power supply for an external hard drive. Since a typical USB puts out 5V, it cannot possibly drive your hard drive. There is a possibly..albeit low...where you can get a plug that plugs into 2 USB ports and provide 10V but I am not sure that will be enough to drive it. If this external unit is already in a case, look for a plug that would accept the power supply pin (pix attached)

How do i retriev my stuff of it to put on computer?

Assuming the harddrive is working, plug it in and click start and my computer( or computer if you are running vista or 7) and then in this window click the name of the harddrive. Then drag and drop?

If you used 3rd party software to back up your data you will need to install that first and run the recovery option

Need Manual or Instructions for Seagate Portable Hard Drive

Your External Drive should be plug and play enable since it is a USB Drive.

Connect the appropriate cables to the External Drive and from the External Drive to the Computer while the computer is fully booted.

The driver for the Drive is loaded else you will be promted that the system have found a new device, if that is the case, put the CD-ROM that came drive and follow the instruction to complete the driver installation.

Open my computer icon on your desktop and you see the external drive.

Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 EIDE 160 GB. Computer does not recogniz

Hello

If you plug it in and windows states that the device could not be recognized, try plugging it in in one of the USB ports in the back of your case, This worked for me.

If you just can't see your HD in my computer, try these following steps.
Go to:
Conrtol panel
Administrative tools
Computer management
Storage
Disc management

Now you should see see the drive in the schematic below, then right click on the drive and assign a new drive letter.
Restart, and all should be set.

If this does not work, have a look at the jumper settings on the drive itself. For this you must take the hard drive out of the case again.
Hope this works. Please rate this.

Seagate barracuda + usb harddrive enclosure cant access hard dive

First, neither of the links work. The amazon shows a power adapter and the Seagate defaults to their home page. But I think I get the idea. You purchased a usb drive enclosure and a new hard drive and now it doesn't work.

The problem is that the hard drive has not been initiated, formatted or assigned a drive letter.
Plug in the drive
Click on the Start button
Right click on Computer
Select Manage
A screen opens, click on Disk Management
All the drives known and unknown will appear on the right.
Find the drive that says unknown, right click over the text and select Initialize Disk.
When done, right click the blank space to the right labelled Unallocated and select new simple volume then follow the steps to format and assign a drive letter.
If you are only going to be using this drive on this computer then format ntfs, if it maybe be connected to other devices including Mac, you may want to use fat32 or exfat.
Whats the Difference Between FAT32 exFAT and NTFS

Tryi8ng to install portable 120GB hard drive (seagate)

If your USB ports do not supply enough power (older computers) then the drive may fail to show up in My Computer.
The Seagate should have a special Y cable. There are two USB connectors on one end that must both plug into your computer - one for data and power - the other for power only. The other end of the cable has the mini USB which plugs into the Seagate.

Power supply for Seagate 400GB

Ebay or seagate.com may be a solution.
I've used those Seagate portables and 2 have caused problems.
Or disassemble the unit, remove the drive and buy a portable case or USB adapter.
