Timing is not very easy. In fact, it is probably the trickiest part of fixing a machine. If you have to fix your machine again involving interrupting the timing, take a very good closeup pucture of the needle and the hook when they are almost touching that is when the needle has gone down as low as it could go and is 'just beginning to rise. And at the same time as the hook is just about to pass behind the needle. As well, take a permanent marker and 'mark' anything (needle bar, bobbin case, etc. ) that will give you an alignment target. That's the easiest way. Having said that. There are many good videos on setting timing. Check out videos by Andy Tube among others.

We know we can buy a manual you greedy people. Thought this was where people help with advice. The machine don’t even cost $60 why would someone buy a manual for that or get “pro” advice for that? It would be cheaper to go buy another used machine.

SOURCE: looking for hook gear for

The gear is #53741 and is available at most sewing dealers. The part is also available wholesale at sewing machine services in Canada. Also fits riccar, eatons and babylock machines, so a babylock dealer could help. You will have to beg a repair book or photocopy same to ger mounting and setting instructions. We charge about 60 to install and time the part ONLY.

SOURCE: I have a Riccar 555su

Hello

Get a manual for the 555, it should be able to give you enough knowledge for your machine.

If not look on the website www. riccar.com for a similar model.

Find out what shank your machine is and you should be able to buy parts for it. I find ebay great for sewing machine parts.

THANK YOU FOR VISITING FIXYA

SOURCE: Setting the hook and needle timing for Riccar

When the needle has risen 2 mm from bottom dead center the point of the hook must be central to the needle and just above the eye.
----------- The hook should be at the top of its stroke inside the shuttle race. Loosen the set screw for the needle bar on the upper part of the machine, this is located on the needle bar bushing (the collar that the needle bar slides through when making a stitch). The needle bar should slide easily up and down. --------- Also for instructions with pictures and diagrams. You can obtain the manual. To get manual click this link directly:--- http://www.manualsoncd.com/productdetail-42-Featured.htm ------
Keep updated.This should help.Thanks.Helpmech.

I have a Riccar 500FA. The upper thread will not pick up the bobbin thread. I have oiled, cleaned, checked the needle installation, the bobbin installation and the needle is brand new.

needle/hook timing needs adjustment
accredited service agent can fix or any sewing machine service shop should be able to do the job

Riccar stretch 500fa Needle won't pick up thread from bobbin

Check to make sure you are using the correct needle for the machine, that it is a brand-new needle, and that is installed facing the correct direction. Other than that, it's quite possible the machine was knocked out of time and needs service.

Hook Drive Gear, Riccar #53741 how to take part off of sewing machine

Hi there,

Today I got such a machine (Riccar) for free from a lady I know. the only problem was that the needle walked against the bobbin (timing problem).

I screwed the sewingmachine open and after some screwing I saw that the part, Hook Drive Gear, Riccar #53741, was broken. Wat I did is I enscrewed two screws wich hold the part on the axe and with a bigger flat screwdriver I could just push the part from the axe, from the other gear. It looks more difficault then it is.

Now I have to get a new part, put it back and time the the machine so that the needle will go normal, at the right time, in the bobbin. Does anybody know the trick to do that?

regards,
Daan

My riccar - model #808 - needs gears. is it possible to have these sent to me?

Yes. However, you wrote "gears" as plural. There is only one gear in that machine; the hook gear. The hook gear is inexpensive and easy to replace and retiming the hook is easy as well. There is another potential problem; the timing belt cogs. They are plastic and, over time, they split, causing the timing belt to jump off time constantly. The replacement kit (2 cogs, belt and idler pulley) is available but is extremely labor intensive and requires a high level of aptitude for mechanical repair.
If you need a hook gear, they are under $10 and can be shipped right to your door. 805-540-9294
