Question about Panasonic Viera TH-42PX80U Plasma TV

1 Answer

Hi, Approximately eighteen months ago, I purchased a 42 inch plasma Panasonic television model number: TH-42pz77u) but Saturday night, the television turn off and have five blinking red lights. Then we attempt to turn on the unit, the only thing that happens is that the red light on the front of the television blinks five times. We have swapped out power cords and switched the television to different outlets, but nothing has worked. What I can do?

The 5 blinks on the LED means that the main logic D board is defective and will need to be replace to fix the TV.
Check this site to find replacement parts to fix your plasma if you intend to DIY.

The source of the problem is not the sustain board but the main audio/video board. The one that looks like this(part sjtnpa4360s). Verify if the part number matches with the one in your set. I found one on shopjimmy for 35$

Blinking red light of death

The most likely the TV has a power supply related problem. The most common thing to go out is the circuit board that supply power to the screen. Commonly called a Backlight Inverter Board.
I can't say it's 100% the problem because I can't actually look at the tv over the internet.
If by chance the TV is still under warranty, go that route.
If not under warranty and If you have some electronic experience, you can purchase a Service Manual over the internet and diagnose the source of the problem and fix it by soldering in the new part. The Service Manual will give you circuit diagrams, test points, and part# lists. Usually, cost under $20.

I hope I shed some light on the subject for you.

42" Panasonic Plasma - Vertical red stripe 6" from left side

We originally had a red stripe roughly 3" wide running vertically on the ride edge area of our Panasonic 52" Viera plasma tv. It has now been joined by a solid black stripe of the same width running from the top to the bottom. Living in Germany and purchased at local PX long enough ago that the warranty is likely expired. Now what?

Surround sound link to new panasonic

The surround sound comes out of the audio out on the rear of your set so the ony leads you need are the Audio set. Red/White, get the lenght you'll need. They get put into the L+R of your audio receiver.
