Saeco Model D.A. 8P Standard/Instant Beverage machine. I am having probelms with the grinder. If I request a cup of coffee the grinder grinds too long and too many beans and overflows the grinding unit. Then it trips the error message after the cup is brewed "Coffe Not Available" and all drink options have red lights except for the hot cocoa. . It won't do anything until I reset it.

Thanks for the info. I will take it apart again and follow your suggestions. After having my 3 yr old grandson for the weekend, I'm pretty worn out. Will have to give it a day or two before I can motivate myself to attempt another try at it. As a 50 year old women, I am mechanically inclined, but menopausally (easily) frustrated with this whole thing. Thanks for the help. I'll let you know if it worked. Linda

Sassy-Pants-
I have some experience with Saecos. I have had your problem many times.

To start with, Saecos (5Ps, 7Ps, and 8Ps) error out if they don't get a signal from the dosser that it is full within 14 seconds of beginning to grind. If I were troubleshooting your machine, I would look at these 2 things first, before all else:
1. Is the grinder running at the proper speed? If you don't hear any difference, it's probably OK. But if the machine has a lot of coffees on it (say more than 20,000) you might take a look at the burr rings to see if they are worn or caked with coffee oils. They should feel pretty sharp (not nearly enough to cut you, but well defined) to the touch as you run your finger around the ring. And the color should be uniform- brass colored- if the rings are still useable. Also, the brushes could be shot if the machine has say 50,000 coffees on it. As far as I know, the only solution to worn brushes is to replace the grinder. The good news is that the new grinder will come with new burr rings.

2. The dosser. More than likely the solution is that the dosser needs to be cleaned, especially if you are using a dark roast coffee. Take it off and clean it carefully with a degreaser (Greased Lightening). Keep at it until all of the coffee dust and oils are gone. Be very careful not to crinkle the metal foil or to immerse the switch or solenoid. Also, are either of the 2 return springs broken? Replace if necessary. Finally, the dosser switch may be either dirty, out of adjustment, or deffective. You should be able to press very gently with your finger on the foil, pressing it against the dosser switch arm. There should be an audible "click" on AND off as you press and release with your finger.
I would like to hear from you if you find this helpful.

I could not find the term "dosser" in the manual so I assumed you meant "grinder". It was caked up and I cleaned everything. AFter brewing first cup of plain coffee, the red lights came on again for everything except the hot cocoa. Very discouraging.... so I gave up for awhile before I can get myself to work on it again. Any other suggestions. This all started after the whole beans ran out. Just seems like it grinds a long time....30 seconds.

Remvove the bean hopper. the doser connects directly to the to the left hand side of the grinder and is either brown or grey or both. if look directly down from the top of the doser, on the left it will have 3 wires on it. 2 are black and one is yellow/green. to the right is a switch with 2 wire green and a blue and a spare spade connecter. this is a dosing switch. Connected to this switch to the on the right hand side is a silver paddle which goes down into the plastic doser. make sure this paddle can move freely as coffee beans get stuck between the paddle and the plastic.
Towards the bottom of the doser should be a spring. then behind that on the other side of the doser should another spring. Make sure they are both in place.

  • Mark Davis Mar 20, 2011

Also the 2 wires (green and blue) on the dosing switch should be on the first 2 connecters of the dosing switch from left to right and on the last connecter shouldn't have anything connected to it.

Could you send me a video clip of the dosser while the machine is making an espresso? It would be most helpful if the clip could start when you push the "espresso" button.

  • Anonymous Mar 21, 2011

How can I make an expresso while the door is open videoing the dosser? Doesn't it need to be closed for it to make a beverage?

  • Anonymous Mar 22, 2011

To make the machine operational while the door is open, you need to over ride the door switch. My favorite way to that is the cut a piece of solid core copper wire, about 10 gauge and 6 or 7 inches long. Turn the machine off, and slide the wire down through the black plastic switch front, weaving it so that it holds the switch closed. If you bend a small "L" in the last 1 inch which will be at the top of the switch, it will never fall out. You can always use just the switch on the back of the machine to turn it off. The machine should start right up when you turn the switch on the back the the "on" position.

You are fabulous!!!! My problem was that when I had cleaned it, I had mistakenly place the blue and green wire on the dosser on the wrong tabs. I have the blue wire on the extreme left, green in the middle, and the tab to the right is emply. Will it still run if I now have the the blue and green wire switched? Do I have it right? Also, in my attempt to fix this thing I had been advised by someone on this site, to go into the system management and change some settings. Is there a way I can reset the machine to factory settings which I am hoping are automatically set for the choices of beverages I have listed on my machine and in their order? The machine now makes beverages without red lighting, but when I hit cappucinno, only black coffee comes out. If I choose mochoccino it comes out with the creamer and frothy, so it looks like the other condiments are working. So I must have made alot of changes and possibly errored in my judgement. I know to go back through and check and change each one from top to bottom might be doing more harm than good since I'm not sure what settings were before I "fixed" it. Any additional advice you can give me will be greatly appreciated. Thanks for all you have helped me with so far. Linda

The order of the wires doesn't matter. And reprogramming the recipes is not a big deal. No worries! It woud be easier to guide you through the programming on the phone. Feel free to call me at 813-486-0950.

To put the machine in the programming mode, open the door and press the top button on the power-I/O board (left-hand side of the inside of the door). Look at the readout on the front of the door and it should say that it is in "System Management?"

Remember that you move through the programming like this-
    the yellow button = enter
    blue button= escape
blue button with a plus sign= increase the value or move up in the menu.
blue button with a negative sign= decrease a value or move down in the menu.

The changes you need to make go something like this---
    1. Press the "programming button" on the power-I/O board
    2. Press the blue button with the negative sign on the front panel about 2 times, until it reads "Preparing Beverages" .
    3. Press the "Enter" button.
    4. Press the "down" button (the blue button with the negative sign) until you get to the coffee you want to change (i.e. you might want to prograsm BEVERAGE D to be a latte.
    5. Press the "enter" button.
    6. Now you want to make the readout say "C300"

OK that's about all the time I have right now. If you want more help, the programming is covered in the operations manual, albeit a little confusingly. Or you can call me.

Thanks for the confirmation. I will try the programming on my own first before I bother you with a call. But thank you so much for the offer. Since I was in there making changes, I know I can fix them. It just might take me a week and a day. My problem is the codes and paremeters. If I want to make BEVERAGE D a latte, I dont know what the "C300" is. As I went through I was changing the numbers for the configuration of the Ingredients. I tried to reduce the coffe because it was grinding so long and tried to increase the water, etc, but unfortunately I did not adequately record what the numbers were before I made the changes so I'm not sure what numbers should go back in.(Example below copied out of book)

    SEQUENCE: C300
    BEVERAGE A
    SOLUBLE 3: 005
    BEVERAGE A
    WATER 3: 022
    BEVERAGE A
    % SOLUBLE 3: 100
    BEVERAGE A
    COFFEE: 38
    BEVERAGE A
    SUGAR: 0
    BEVERAGE A
    BEVERAGE CHECK

How do I go about checking each beverage and verinfying what each amount is. Is there a sheet that will guild me checking the parimeters of each beverage item and changing them?

My coffee is weak. i have played with the grinder, placing it at different no. on the outside plus i have played with adjustment on the interior.

Hi
Check the grinds. If they are coarse you have a separated grinder. It usually means it needs to be replaced I have seen them on ebay, but if you can't find them, I have some. If they are not coarse, you have to make 3 coffees before the grind will take affect. After you change the grind you have to make 3 drinks before you will see a change. If you don't have a puck in your dredge drawer, you don't have enough coffee going into the brew unit. Push the lever behind the door in the center top back to the +, then forward 1 click, and try that. There should be a full puck going into the dredge drawer that has the consistency of coarse sugar. If it very coarse its the grinder.

Saeco machine grinder

Due to the use the grinding burrs are slightly move and wire out. So I advice you to move only one max two step to more fine coffee grinding from the one you have and try the coffee.
The test you have to do is that for about 30 cc of coffee the time that the coffee will run should be about 20 to 22 seconds. If the coffee more faster you need more fine grinding. If the coffee run more slower than 28 sec you need more gross coffee grinding.
Good luck

Does not grind beans

This can be caused from a broken by a brken grinder motor or even broken grinder sensor.
However this can be cased by a stuck grinder from grinded coffee to the grinder bledes. So you try from the last posible problem by removing all the coffee beans from the machine and by the use of a vacum cleaner try to **** all the remainings both beans and grinded coffee. If you can remove the top panel then you will have access more direct to the grinder and by the use of painting brush and vacum cleaner you will be able to clean the grinding blades mere intesive. Try to rotate the blade manualy to be sure that they can run after the cleaning.
So now you will be able to add some beans and try the machine again. If the probelm remains then you will need a new motor.
Good luck.

Saeco De Luxe Coarse Grind

You could have knocked it out of its shaft or worse, Cracked the shaft itself.

Settings could be off too, It fairly common. Recheck the chamber, and make sure the plastic casing isn't cracked and the grinder doesn't wabble at all. It should be fairly firm.

If it isn't firm, bad news, cracked shaft.

The machine won't start up

in the self test does it flush the unit ? If not you have to prime the unit by allowing it to pump hot water through the frothing valve. Open the valve and the pump should pulse water out. After this the machine should indicate it is in the operating mode for coffee
