Hi
i committed the cardinal sin of not powering down before i plugged in my 250 gig hard drive. saw a spark as i connected the power and have obviously cooked the circuit board. it now gets REALLY hot and doesnt spin up.
Can i purchase a new circuit board to get it operational to recover the data.
regards
Phil
If it's not spinning most likely it has fried PCB or bad enclosure.
You can try to remove the internal drive from it and connect it directly to PC. If still not spinning then the problem is with logic board. Try to find another drive of the same model and replace the card. But as far as I know most often it doesn't work.
Here's some more info: http://datacent.com/datarecovery/hdd/seagate
Hi you would have to buy a replacement drive that works that is the same as the one you zapped and change over the board to see if you did any other damage to the drive motor or send it to a recovery person which would probably be cheaper in the long run.
