I has a dog chew on my cord.is .I'd like to fix it

If the bare wire is not showing, just wrap with black electric tape. If the bare wire is showing then
1. remove the insulation from the two wires about 1 inch on each side of the cut.
2. Go to a hardware store and get some wire nuts (small), twist the two ends together and screw on the wire nut.
3. Do the same thing to the other wire. Now take black electrical tape and tape each wire nut down the wire about 1/2 inch.
4. Tape both wire nuts together with electrical tape and the wire strands to the insulation and up the insulation about 1 inch.

I have a Honeywell commercial grade floor fan that the switch went out on. how can I wire it direct and bypass the switch

Disconnect or cut both wires from the switch. Strip about one half inch of insulation from both wires to expose the bare copper wires. Twist them together using a wire nut cap. Wrap with black electrical tape. You could solder the twisted wires together and then use electrical tape to wrap them too. Either method will work fine.

How can i repair a power cord that is cut without buying a new one:

Hello
Power chords have normally 2 or three colductors in it, which will be colour coded. Just remove the outer insulation of the wire to a convenient length, remove insulations of wach condcutors and join them by twisting its strands, or by soldering, so this to all the conductors, insulate them indicidualy and after all insulate the whole around with insulation tape. Insulation tape can be bought from electrical shops. OK.

I got a Targus PA248U Notebook Chill Pad, the part inside where I plug the cable in is messed up I think and it won't power on. How do I open it up to have a look to see if I can fix it?

I opened the case and hard wired the power cord directly to the wires of the fans. There are 4 philips-head screws at the four top corners under the rubber adhesive pads. Separate the top from the bottom. Two wires come from each of the fans. Cut and twist the two positive wires together and the two negative wires together. Cut the end off the power cord that is NOT the USB end and strip the wire insulation back. You will find a white insulated wire surrounded by another wire. Twist the ends of each separately making sure they are separated by the white insulation. Remove the circuit board using the tiny screws where the switch is and put the power cord end through the switch hole. Tie a knot in the cord to prevent cord from pulling out. Make sure the USB end can reach a USB port on your computer. Carefully test which wires to twist together by touching each to see if the fans turn. One way will work and other way won't. When sure of correct wires, you can solder them together and insulate properly with small wire nuts or electrical tape. Reassemble case with screws and plug in USB cord end when you want the fans to cool your notebook computer. I hope that this helps.

Yes, add a piece of wire, so they can flex, and twist together and cover with electrical tape.

Cord broke off at plug connection point Does Bose repair this? Does anyone repair this?

it certainly could be repaired. just requires a new connector and some soldering expertise. unsure of any 'store' or 'vendor' that one could walk into for such a repair. depening on how much they cost it may or may not be worth pursuing repair from the manufacturer. perhaps you have a friend who can solder? then you may be able to get the connector at a store such as radio shack.

alternative - it wont be pretty, but if you have a compatible connector from some other unused or broken headphones or cable - you could cut off that connector (keeping some length of wire to work with)
-separate the 2 wires (both from the new connector and from the headphones) and strip back the the insulation on them, about 1" or so.
-unwrap the shield and twist it to keep the stands together
-this should reveal another insulated wire - strip this one back about 0.5"
-join the matching wires from the 2 parts (4 total connections) take care to arrange the wires so that none of the bare wire parts touch each other - use tape (preferably electrical tape) to cover them individually to achieve this.
-test it out.

Cut extension cord

This happens a lot with circular saws too.

You can strip off the insulation from each side of the cut and connect the wires (be sure to match colors!) and wrap the whole assembly in electrical tape, but you really are best off replacing the cord.

If you do repair it, tie a knot in the cord so there's no stress on your repair job when you tug on the cord.

I just did some reading and found out the name of the knot you want is actually the "Euro death-knot" (best example is in this picture)

Tie it with the cut ends just like the ropes in the picture, then do your splice job on the ends of the wires.

Dog chewed cord on bissell model 6579-2 how do I replace it?

You can cut the bad section of wire out of the cord, cut the insulation on the cord to get to the wires. Match your colors, strip the insulation from the individual wires and twist together. Wrap each wire with electrical tape (making sure no wire is exposed, can be a fire hazard), then wrap the cord with electrical tape. The cord will be a little shorter, but should work fine.

Samsung htz310 home cinema system, speaker cable problem

If it's just the speaker cable, it's an easy fix. There are two strands of wire for each cable. I would cut the cable at the break, seperate the strands carefully about two inches in each direction, either by pulling them apart, or by using a knife, being careful to preserve the insulation around each strand (sometimes pulling apart the strands will pull the insulation from one side or the other depending on how fragile it is - I usually just start the seperation with a knife, and then pull them apart slowly). Then you can strip back the insulation about an inch on either side of the break on each strand.

To strip back the insulation, take a sharp knife and cut through the insulation by cutting around the wire on each strand about an inch back in both directions being careful to not cut through the wire. A few of the strands won't make a big difference, but if you cut too much it may be best to start over.

Once you have about an inch of wire exposed on each strand, you can intertwine the wires to put them back together. Just hold the bare ends of each seperated strand side-by-side and twist them together. If you mix up which strands are which, mark one of the sides with tape or a sharpie to make sure you twist the right ends together. Usually there is a white stripe on the positive strand, or some other marking that runs the length on one side only, so that's a good guide for putting the right wires back together.

Once that is done, you need to isolate the bare wires from each other. I usually bend them parrallel to the cable in opposite directions, and then use electrical tape run between them and around each strand. Once they are isolated and not in danger of touching, use some heatshrink tubing around the whole patch to make it lasting and durable. It won't look pretty, but it will work just fine. You can find heatshring tubing at Radio Shack. Just slide a big enough piece to cover the repaired area on from the end of the cable without the connector, and then use a hairdryer to shrink the tubing around the patch. If you don't have a hairdryer, you can use a match or candle. Just be careful.

Alternatively, you can just wrap more electrical tape around the whole area in a diagonal, but tape isn't nearly as durable a patch as heatshrink.

Hope that helps.
