Hi. I have a Compaq Presario 2500 laptop that I also lost the sound for. The Model # of the laptop of KD558A. If you have an audio driver, or can tell me where I can find one, I would REALLY appreciate it! Thanks so much!
Hi. I suppose you meant after installing Windows XP.
Look in the CDs that came with your Computer and find a software related to your sound card or in case it is integrated in your mainboard look in your motherboard CD for the audio drivers(for xp), that's the way the software you deleted is called.
if you know the make and model of your device, you can post that info here and ask for help.
Otherwise you can go to the sound device manufacturer website or motherboard manufacturer website and look for drivers, try to download the newest version (for XP of course), intall it and SAVE it in a cd.

YOu need to locate your devices TRUE model. Look on your product label on bottom of laptop. There are various models of the L3000 series. Once you have the proper model number (looks like L3000-502I etc) Go to Support.toshiba.com website. Go to DOWNLOADS tab, choose LAPTOP in first box, Choose SATELLITE on next one, and in third box scroll to your actual model number (the real one) and then download the SOUND drivers for your device. This should fix it. Also, you need to be sure and download teh proper version for Windows XP.. dont get the Windows 7 version. I would also make sure that XP is updated to the current SP3 version. To do this go to microsoft.com and run Microsoft Update.
You need a driver most likely. You can find the type of sound ard that you have by going doing a right click on "Your Computer" and selecting properties. After properties, select the hardware tab. On the hardware tab, select device manager. Select sound and see what type of card you have. You can then go to that providers site and download the correct driver.
Another possibility is that your speakers have become disconnected. Check to make sure that the wire is connected.
Not sure the reason you would have downloaded the realtek a/c 97audio drivers as these are already part of windows xp. Maybe you downloaded an update.
This may not be the reason for not getting sound. It is possible the audio device (from which you are expecting the sound) may itself be faulty. Hard to know without knowing the full configuration of your pc. Check the setup of the audio system using Control panel. Look at the volume control bars and also mute selection.
Open up Device Manager, right-click on the computer name at the top of the hierarchy and select Scan for hardware changes. It should re-detect your hardware in reinstall the proper drivers.
