I would suspect you need a new control panel assembly.

SOURCE: Whirlpool Gold GU15 dishwasher won't start

The appliance repair technician just diagnosed the problem for me. He says it's a bad touchpad, and it would cost $257 for him to replace it. Thought I'd share the diagnosis in case anyone else comes upon this thread.

SOURCE: causes of a blown thermal use and a whirlpool gold dishwasher

Your lint vents in the dryer are clogged.
Your connecting vent on the rear is clogged.
Your through the wall vent is clogged.
Could be any one of these problems or a combination of these.
In any event, you have poor air flow.

Clean light blinks on whirlpool dishwasher won't run

If you aren't sure whether Control Lock is on, press a cycle button on the keypad. If Control Lock is on, the light will blink three times.
Turning off Control Lock:
  1. Press and hold the Lock Button for four seconds. The lock light will disappear.
  2. Once off, you should be able to start your wash cycle.
Note: If Sleep Mode is on, turn that off first, then turn off Control Lock.

Like many other electronics, you may need to reset the dishwasher control panel by turning it off, waiting, then turning it back on.
  1. Press the OFF button.
  2. Disconnect the dishwasher from its power source by unplugging it or by turning the circuit breaker off at the electric panel.
  3. Once disconnected, wait one minute, and turn the power back on.

Blinking auto lock Whirlpool

What does it say in fine print right under control lock? "Press & Hold"? Page 16 of the user manual shows it as "air dry" with two lights, twelve and three o'clock positions. It says hold it for four seconds and the light turns off.

Whirlpool Gold quiet washplus dishwasher Red Light staying on--control locked Cannot get it to run, no buttons will do anything

Which model dishwasher do you have? The Control Lock is a feature that keeps a child from starting the dishwasher when it shouldn't run. The Cancel button will work but not the Start button.

On the DU920QWD, to toggle the Control Lock off, press and hold Air Dry for 5 or more seconds. (Holding it again will turn on the lock.) Most dishwashers will have a the Control Lock key labeled with text in a small font for how to enable the Lock. The direct link to the DU920QWDB4 manual is https://www.whirlpool.com/digitalassets/MLPDF/Use%20and%20Care%20Guide%20-%203376817.pdf .

For other Whirlpool dishwashers, the Control Lock sequence will be listed in the manual. You can get a PDF of many Whirlpool appliance manuals from http://www.whirlpool.com/owners-center/owners-center-homepage.content.html . Enter the model number (from the rim inside the unit) and click on the right arrow.

I hope this helps.

HI, this is a control fault and you can confirm failure by shutting off the breaker switch or unplugging for 5 minutes. if the unit continues to malfunction after the 5 minute reset, you will need to replace the electronic control board.

Lock light will not go off

what you have to do is push and hold, i believe, the air/heat dry button for 5 seconds and that should change the control from lock to unlocked.
look for a "lock" symbol under the button and thats the one that you have to hold in on.
it may not be the air dry button but there will be one that does have the symbol.

Whirlpool gold

First press your "Sani-rinse" button and the your "Heat Dry" button and toggle between them a couple times. This will reset your control module. If the clean light continues to blink then it means that your heating element needs replacing.  This is not a big job, either. You will need to order a new element and come back for instructions if you can't figure it out quickly....
