My nikon L18 coolpix camera shows a lens error when turned on...

If the lens is stuck at an angle, you can try and SNAP it back towards the center to straighten it out. If it's not at an angle then the lens needs to be replaced. Sorry I don't have better news than that.

Display show objetive error on CoolPix X L18

Unfortunately, many cameras that fall prey to lens error problems can only be corrected by professional repair. But, here are some last resort troubleshooting steps that you can try that may correct it. They only seem to work for less than 40% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty (or repair cost approaches that of the camera), they're worth that try.

Lens error

The following blog outlines some repair options for a lens error. They won't work for all cases, but they're worth a try if the camera's no longer under warranty:

Nikon COOLPIX L18 Digital says lens error!

Sometimes the lens is just stuck, sometimes it needs to be replaced. Try to mechanically move the lens in and out by gently twisting, pushing and pulling. If that fails, the gears are too misaligned to repair it without opening it.

If you're out of warranty, there are third party place that replace them such as camera lens repairs.

If you want to do it yourself, there are also free camera repair guide websites that show you how to replace the lens, the replacement part is usually available on ebay.

Nikon coolpix L18 lens error

This is probably THE single most common failure among digital cameras. There's a halfway chance of fixing it yourself, described here: http://camerarepair.blogspot.com/2007/12/fixing-lens-error-on-digital-camera.html

Nikon CoolPix L18 getting lens error

Try jiggling the lens. Use compressed air to blow out any grit around the lens barrel. If that doesn't do it, you'll need to get the camera serviced.
