Memory can ddr2 memory be installed on a motherboard that specs say "DDR 333/400 MHz dual channel"? Motherboard is a Foxconn C51GU01. If it can be done will it be an improvement over the DDR 400MHz memory I have now? OS is XP sp3.

Hello.
Of course it would be a great improvement, but unfortunatelly you can't install DDR2 in DDR slots, they are different and even if you could make it fit they have a big difference in architecture.
i'm sorry, it wont work.

Regards

Memory configurations

You can install 128 MB, 256 MB, 512 MB, and 1GB DDR SDRAM DIMMs into the DIMM sockets using the memory configurations in this section.

• Install only identical (the same type and size) DDR DIMM pairs

using the recommended configurations.

• Make sure that the memory frequency matches the CPU FSB

(Front Side Bus). Refer to the Memory frequency/CPU FSB

synchronization table on the next page.

• This motherboard does not support double-sided 16-bit DDR DIMMs.

• Do not create a three-DIMM configuration in dual-channel mode. The
third DIMM is ignored in the dual-channel operation.

I need to solvthe problem of my new install memory

According to the specs of this motherboard, it supports DDR 333/400 and DDR2 533/400 memory modules. It does not support DDR2 667 memory modules.
DDR 333/400 memory modules can be installed in the yellow slots, whereas DDR2 533/400 memory modules can be installed in the blue slots.
Only one type of memory modules (either DDR or DDR2) can be used. Mixing of different types of memory modules is not supported.

I did find others for less on the surface. Untill you go to check out & get slammed for shipping (ground), falls between $4.99 to $9.99. I use Corsair myself. Never had a problem.
