My Little Giant pump (554405) is connected to our furnace/cac collecting condensation. It's been working fine for about 5 years. Now it keeps turning on for about 2 seconds and stopping only to repeat about a minute later. No water is being pumped out. It's been doing this for a couple days. Is there an easy fix?

Hi,
There could be gunk in the bottom....then the float does not work right and the pump will not pump either...

remove the pipes and/or hoses and then the screws that hold down the top....clean the inside really well and reassemble... that may work,,,, but it may already be burnt up...

if cleaning does not work the replace the pump...you should be able to buy a new one at a HVAC supply house or some place like HD or Lowes...they will be in the 50.00 or less range...

Testimonial: "Thanks for the suggestion. I cleaned out the basin, removed gunk and it seems to be fine now. Thanks again."

Little giant over runs with water, but runs when i lift the lid. ? help !

It sounds like the float assembly is getting restricted somehow. Check to see if it is hitting the cover and/or binding over normal up/down travel.

How do I wire the safety overflow switch to my furnace humidifier thermostat? I have a Little giant VCMA-20ULT and a Aprilaire 700.

The overflow switch needs to be wired in a manner that interrupts the HOT (black?) side of the wires going to the water inlet valve or it's circuit.

My old pump has the brown and blue wires connected

first do not change the factory wiring, what voltage is the pump wired for, what voltage is supplied to the pump.

then we figure out the rest
also what do the instructions say about the pump

NO stands for normally open contact-which means during operation is open which means off.

Our furnace is a six year old Armstrong Ultra V high efficiency gas furnace with a Little Giant pump. We have owned the home for about 3 years. For a couple of the very coldest days each year, the furnace...

Thank you for posting your question here on Fixya.com.

What is the problem you are having that makes you think it is the pump? The pump has nothing to do with furnace operation; it is there to remove condensate and humidification water from the furnace to a drain or sink. If the furnace is tied to the pumps secondary float to allow the pump to shut off the furnace due to high water, disconnect the switch and wire nut the two wires from the furnace together.

If you want to fix the pump, a few common problems center on lint and dust buildup in the reservoir and/or tubing. You can use compressed air to blow out the discharge line. Be careful to keep the end in a safe direction...you would be surprised who much slimy crud builds up in the tubes. You can take the top off the reservoir and clean inside it. On the coldest days, check to be sure the water is not somehow freezing within the discharge, which would only seem possible if for some reason the tubing leads outdoors.
