Hi Mary

It sound like you have a dieing hard drive . If you unplug it and leave it for 2 minutes then plug it back in to see if a 'cold start' will help it. If you do get it running get all the pictures/files/documents of it as soon as possible. And don't use it again.

Seagate have a program for testing there hard drives at

http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/support/downloads/seatools

download and install it and see if it can help.

If it still wont run and you have photographs/files/documents that you need of the drive you will have to look at data recovery.

I fix a lot of computers and over the past 2 years I've come across 4 Seagate drives that have failed and only one other brand .I don't know whats happening with the company because years ago they were the best hard drives you could get but now from personal experience I would give Seagate hard drives a wide berth.

Hope this helps

Alistair

Western digital humming sound

I'm 99% sure the heads are seized to the platters on this. The buzzing, or humming sound you hear is the spindle motor trying to spin up, but it can't. This is also why the drive is not rotating. Definitely do not power this drive up any more if the data is important to you. If this is one of the smaller Passport style drives, it's pretty common for them to literally rip the read/write heads off as the drive tries to spin up. Professional data recovery is the only option in these cases.

Seagate Expansion 1TB external Desktop Hard Drive (9sf2A4-500) not detected.

Claire,

Have you tried connecting the drive to another computer using Windows 7 or later. You could try chkdisk /f at a command prompt or get the testdisk app to identify deeper issues with the drive.

Abs light came on while driving and when engine is shut off makes a loud humming sound ? took the fuse out to make hummimg noise go away and now abs light and emergency parking brake are on all the time...

have the abs module checked for codes to find out what the problem is.when the system detects a fault in the system it turns on the abs light and check the e-brake to make sure its all the way off.the humming noise sounds like its coming from the abs hydraulic unit that`s not shutting off.

I hook up my speakers to my computer but no sound device detected i get a humming sound though?

Without getting into a vbak and forth with you about all the details of your PC, you should use a search engine to find high-level advice on how to get your sound device going (sound card). Until THAT happens speakers will not work.

"hook up my speakers computer no sound device "

Hello. I just purchased these speakers and there is a low static hum in them. Also, if I turn up the bass volume on the subwoofer I get a deep hum and no sound. Any assistance would be greatly...

Double check your wiring again, sounds like something is either not hooked up right or maybe you got faulty speakers. There shouldn't be any hissing or humming in any speakers. Get a flash light and make sure you have it in the right spot on your computer most sound cards have about 5 different jacks you could have simply put it in the wrong jack.

I HAVE A Z-2300 NO SOUND

Is it plugged in with a 3.5 millimeter jack? If it is, pull it out of the computer and press you thumb on the tip, if no humming noise comes out, your speakers are probably blown.

However, if a humming noise does come out. Please check to make sure the volume on the computer is turned up/unmuted, the software's volume is turned up/unmuted, your sound card driver is installed (Right-Click "My Computer" -> left click on properties -> Click on the Hardware tab -> click on "Device Manager" -> Click the "+" next to "Sound, video and game controllers" and make sure there is no Red "X"'s or yellow "!"'s.

If you do get a hum, and you do have everything set up right in Windows, try a different pair of speakers or head phones. Your sound card might be fried.

Also, make sure you're plugging the speakers into the correct port on the computer (It's usually a washed out green port"

Humming sound in receiver...being transmitted to ceiling spaekers

Low humming sound is invariably the ripple of the AC mains supply breaking through.
Sometimes it is radiated from nearby wiring, sometimes it is caused by a hum loop and sometimes it is an indication the capacitors in the power supply are failing.

Wire antena (that came with SS5 system) causes a hum

It is assumed that the hum is coming down the aerial wire it self....The hum should be eliminated
dissappear if you remove the wire from its connector at the rear of the receiver.

If this is the case then reconnect the aerial and try to find a radio station to listen to..

When you find a station you will find the hum dissappears as follows:

When there is no station detected the receiver tweaks up its sensitivity via the Automatic Gain Control, (AGC) and when this happens any thing that is detected on the aerial is reproduced at the speakers and in your case its just a hum.

I have heard this event lots of times and mostly its scrackles or scratchs or other weird sounds which come down the aerial while the AGC is flat out at maximum..

The radio station transmits a sound "carrier" and within this carrier there is the music content.

The receiver detects the "carrier" when you tune to the radio station, and then it sets its receive
level to the setting made by the volume control and then lovely music is presented at the speakers..

So in fact your receiver is working as it should be ,.,,, no worries mate....

Now if the hum is still there when the music is there then you have a fault, but as you havent mentiond this aspect your receiver is in my view quite "normal".

Cheers For Now
From YUBEUT..
