Auto focus not working could you tell me if it is the lens or the camera that is most likely to be broken.

My Canon Rebel t3i seems to be slow focusing at times and sometimes will not focus at all. It seems slow to react to the shutter button at times. Lens is set to a/f and the camera is set to auto.

Please provide more information about the conditions under which this occurs.

Auto focus will not work on my canon 40d

First of all you need to clean the connectors on both the lens and the camera. Do this by using a pencil eraser being careful not to get bits in the camera or lens. If this doesn't clear the problem is it that auto focus doesn't function with any lens. If that is so then you need a camera repair. If auto focus is only non functional on the Sigma 170-500mm and you can manual focus then the probable problem may be a broken ribbon cable in the lens itself. This will need to be replaced. Usually a quick and relatively cheap job.

Canon lens 18-35 tries and tries to focus

If the focus works OK in manual focus and you are getting problems with auto focus you may have a broken or worn ribbon in the lens.

hi your camera body doesn't have live view function. About auto focus you should check lens AF/M switch position. and still not working? then would you let me know more detail how does not work? (like any noise, or broken gear) Actually canon bundle lens has a lot problem. what kind of lens you have? etc.. Thanks and best regard!

there is couple of possibilities like wise when you zoom lens manualy and can you heard the hard noise then could be AF unit itself faulty. AF unit gear is gone.
could be AF shaft broken thats why not focusing
could be AF Flex broken thats why not focusing
for that please bring to canon service center

My auto focus will not work.

lens af unit gear is broken, or lens af saft if broken, or lens af flex is broken.
or could be camera sub mirror spring is come out from mirror unit.
take it to canon repaire centre to estimate

Lens will not auto focus wit my Nikon D40x

That lens doesn't have an internal focusing motor and thus will not autofocus with the D40x. Nothing is broken.

Hi there,

what kind of lens do you use? D40 only support AF-S type to run the autofocus properly

have you switched the focus selector on the lens to A/M mode?
if you have but the autofocus is still not working, i assume that the lens-motor has broken

Go to a camera store and mount a motor lens which is known to be good. Focus it a few times. If it works your problem is the lens. If it doesn't it's the camera or the settings on it.
Motorized lenses seems to be a fad which is going away. The lenses are no better, are more expensive and don't work on D50-70-90 and so on.
