I have a Whirlpool electric range RF263LXTQ2- 2 yrs old-it gets so hot that the large burner pans are both charred black. Had it looked at about a year ago and couldn't find any problem-top and front of stove get so hot when the oven is on you can't touch the stove-large burners are tipped to the center of the stove so any liquid runs to that side of the pan-for the past two weeks the large front burner control has a sparking sound when you turn the knob to start the burner-the two small burners seem to work fine and the drip pans are not burned like the large ones--today I was going to take the stove apart to clean it and had the oven on before-I couldn't even take the burners off the stove because they were so hot and the top of the stove was so hot. I would appreciate any help in figuring out why this stove gets so hot-I am afraid it can cause a fire.

Since you are having problems with multiple elements the problem is probably the circuit board that controls them. This can be ordered and replaced. Be sure to unplug the stove before getting into the circuit board though.

SOURCE: Whirlpool R365 Large Burners won't work

The problem could likely be in the sockets that the elements plug in to. Over time, they lose tension and deteriorate. The replacement sockets are relatively cheap and easy to replace. If the connection ends of the elements are still in good shape, there is really no reason to replace the element.

Each burner has its own switch. I suspect your switch on that burner is bad or going bad. Conracts probably burring up from the constant arcing associated with closing and opening. Here is how it works:

How to remove black grease and smoke marksfrom brushed stainless

In order to avoid damage to the surface, my favorite is petrol (gasoline) to melt the muck and then a standard non abrasive detergent cleaner to get rid of the smell of petrol. Alternatively, you can try a proprietary oven cleaner (one that doesnt need the oven to be hot)

INTERMITTENT BURNER ELEMENT

Take out the element and look at the connecting ends see if there are char or burn marks where they make the connection. One thing you might try doing is cleaning the connections, if that does'nt work you will probably need to replace the element.

Hope this helps ya

What could be wrong with a gas stove hot point(2 yrs old)that has lots of black in the oven when using and also black on bottoms of pans when using burners on top? it just started doing this...

The flame is 'yellow tipping'. This means there is incomplete combustion and will leave black soot on everything. Did you recently start using propane? If so the stove will need to be converted to propane use, or the incoming gas pressure is too high. You may need a gas professional to check the gas pressure.
