My Flip Camera Model U2120 stopped turning on. If I plug it into the USB port the screen lights up and says "Connected". Once I remove it then try to turn the camera on it still does not work. I have replaced the batteries and tried using the rechargeable batteries and still not luck. Any Ideas?

I found some interesting information about your camera. It turns out that the camcorder will only charge its battery if it detects the physical presence of its rechargeable battery pack. Battery detection depends on two physical components. One is a switch located at the top of the battery compartment, The other is a little plastic tab included with the battery pack

Instructions for the fix are located at this link: Fixing Flip UltraHD that won charge its battery

SOURCE: Camera software corrupted??

I had the same problem with my flip mino HD. Here are the steps I took to fix it.

1. Adjust the power options on your laptop to ensure it does not sleep/hiberate ever.
2. Reset the camcorder by inserting a paperclip into the hole in the tripod mount. Hold the paperclip in there for about seven seconds.
3. Then immediately plug the flip into the cpu.
4. You may not see anything besides the little blinking white light on the USB arm for a while (about 30 minutes maybe) but leave it in.
5. Eventually it should spring to life and show the recharging battery on the little screen (the Flip Share program may start too.)
6. Leave it charging until the little white light stops flashing - full charge about 3 hours.
7. You can then remove the flip and change the power settings back to normal.

SOURCE: Flip Video Camera Won't Start Up

Flip support helped me solve this problem. Their procedure is to take the batteries out of the camera and leave it sit for 48 hours. After 48 hours, put different batteries into the camera and turn it on. Your problem should be solved. It worked for me the first time and now I currently doing it for a second time. Waiting for 48 is no fun, but at least it works and fixing it is not expensive. No explanation was given to me about the problem.

SOURCE: Flip Ultra - freezes at initial Flip screen - will not shut off

I found a fix that worked for mine.
It was doing the same thing, freezing at the "Flip" screen and would not turn off. I did the remove the batteries deal. It worked once but issue reoccured 2 months later and the battery fix didn't fix it.
What did fix it was...
With the camera off, hold down the Right Arrow button and the trash can button at the same time and turn the camera on.
A few seconds later, I was at the start recording screen!!

Good Luck!

SOURCE: Flip Video Won't Turn On

For the Flip Ultra - Take out batteries you should see a flat somewhat square piece of metal with a small black piece sticking up from it. Take a pencil and push the black piece down wait a few minutes then try turning your flip back on.

I have the same problem, did the same things that the customer service said and it does not work. I had to return it. Customer service was no help. I think these are lemons.

Software is unable to find Olympus Digital camera connected to USB port

Try NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program such as Picasa.

This may sound like a stupid question, but did you make sure your rechargeable battery pack is installed??? if they are in there I would try removing and check connections to make sure they are clean and no dirt and then try reseating the battery pack again. if no battery try installing AA batteries, my model U2120 takes those also if you are new to this camera, there is a little dial at bottom of camcorder to unlock the front cover, turn to unlock and the front of the camera slides off to show the battery compartment. maybe the rechargeable battery pack is shot and won't charge so try the regular batteries whatever kind yours takes. good luck!

Hi,

The "USB mode" and "Connecting to Mass Storage" message will get displayed when the Camera is connected to the Computer and is recognized by the Computer as a Mass Storage device. This is not an error message and is a normal operation.
You can change the Mass Storage settings in the Camera (depends on the model) The USB Select or USB Connect option in the Camera can be changed to PTP, Mass Storage or PictBridge mode. Set the option in the Camera to PTP and connect it to the Computer and check if the Computer is recognizing the connection. Once the computer is recognized, it appear as a removable Drive.
You can transfer the images from the Camera to the Computer from the Removable Drive by copying and pasting.

I had this charging problem with 2 new Flip Ultra HD cameras...red light flashing..nothing on the screen after plugging in the USB port.

Why on earth the book doesn't mention these steps is beyond me.
