I've been studying the problem for several minutes and actually downloaded the manual from the Nikon site to confirm a suspicion. With the camera software denying the transfer yet other "Windows" application are makes me believe that there is or are corrupt files on the memory card.
The Nikon D90 is a "Semi-Pro" type camera and feature packed, however if you have been deleting files and not formatting then the memory card has become saturated with empty files (deleted) what needs to be done each time you down load is format the memory card. Formatting cleans off all the old empty files, restores the memory card to a fresh medium and allows the camera and cart to communicate between each other efficiently. Also one other thing that might have happened is that the protect lock has been engaged. The camera SD card has a lock protection switch on the left upper side (with the letter facing up) this little switch need to be pushed to the top edge towards the gold contacts. I'll supply a diagram, there is also another thing is this a new memory card? if so did you format the card to the camera before you used it? Also your camera has some SD card memory capacity restrictions these are shown on page 242 of your manual.

How to activate date/time stamp on nikon d90

The date and time are stored with the picture as metadata, but the D90 won't mar your photos by scrawling a string of numbers on it. Any good photo editing program will let you print the date and time on the picture, in the margin, or on the back, depending on your printer.

How can i transfer photo files from my lap top, iphone ,or camera using usb connections

On every device, PC, laptop, tablet or phone you need a program to transfer files to and from. The device has to recognise the device that is connected. It also needs instructions what to do.
On the PC, you also need a driver for the connected hardware, And if you want to move files (Pictures are files too) you need a transfer program. Most camera's do have a CD, with the needed software for Windows and Mac. Phones and Tablets need an App. Most transfer and phone view apps are free. And yes there are also apps you can buy, but even for Apple you can get photo (transfer and view) apps for free.
If you have an Android, goto the Google store and search for a free photo app and install it. (Snapseed is great and free)

How do i copy pics from my computer to my nikon d90-it says the device is disconnected or has stopped working

It is never advisable to send pics from the computer to the camera...most of the time, the card and even the camera can be corrupted.

I have not got a cd for downloading photos from my D90 that Ibought on Monday from Domayne at Warrawong. My computer does not recognise the d90 camera Can you download the Nikon Transfer programme for me?

You can download the current versions of all (free) Nikon software from
http://support.nikontech.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/61

You might want to consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer. The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use Nikon Transfer or any other photo cataloging program.

Hi, i am unable to transfer any pictures from my newly purchased D90. The transfer software loaded fine onto my lab top and it recognises the D90 camera as external hardware. However when i click start...

I don't even bother with the camera and software. I use a card reader to download to a folder I create on my desktop. Once the pics are there I can view them from there or use a photo editing program such as Photoshop Elements to work with them. Much more reliable than the camera and cord method.
