The sound disappeared on my computer after a new hard drive was installed. However the sound returned when I altered the green sound cable to a different socket at the rear of the tower. Within two days it...

if you installed a new hard drive.. did you also installed windows on that new hd? if you did.. you may need to also install the sound card drivers.

the sound from your speakers depend on the sound card on your computer, and the sound card works only if you install the drivers that are specific for that sound card/computer. if you need help finding the drivers post back you computer specs (model, brand etc) and operating system and we'll help you find the drivers that may need to be reinstalled.

The sound on my laptop suddenly stopped working. I have gone to Dell website and downloaded the driver again, but still no sound. It seemed to stop working around the same time I completed microsoft...

if you got the hardware updates from Microsoft they often misidentify sound cards and install bad drivers. See if you can isolate the microsoft update for the sound card and or roll back the driver to an older different driver

Sound/Wireless gone after reinstall XP

I'm not sure what your inistal problem is, BUT:
it sounds as if you do not have a sound card, and need to reinstall the sound card. So:
First: go to the Microsoft XP website and install ALL updates. If the sound worked before, you may need to reinstall some updates.

Second: Go to My Computer icon, click on Properties, and go to Device Manager. Find the sound card, and make sure it is enabled. If it says device driver not found, then--->

Third: Go to the manufacturer's website, and download the install ofyour sound driver. Look up what your sound card manufacturer is and go to their website. It should tell you in the Device Manager.

Let me know how this worked!

I get no sound on my laptop pcg-7d2l, the headphone jack does not work either.

First make sure you don't just have it muted... seems simple but its happens. Open the volume controls and make sure the mute is not checked. If that doesn't work, try removing the sound card drivers and reinstalling them after a reboot. If both the speakers and the headphones don't work its most likely the drivers, however there is a chance the sound card has gone bad as well. . . Try the driver reinstall and if that doesn't work you will need to have it serviced.

I don't know what is my original sound card system

I downloaded a driver detector. The detector sought the driver detail, and I download relevant driver base on the model detail given by the detector.
