PLEASE HELP!! I am going on a business trip tomorrow and ALL of my requisite files are on my Dell Latitude D610 that won't power on. PROBLEM: once I removed it from my docking station at work, it won't power on when I plug it in to the regular charging adapter. When plugged in, the green light on the charging adapter comes on, however my laptop will NOT turn on at all. Nada! Wonder if the charging port on my laptop is the culprit. I even tried turning it on with the battery removed as I thought it should still be charged from being attached the docking station at work all the time. No such luck! Any help from the geniuses would be greatly appreciated! THANK YOU!!!

Sorry for my delayed response to your very helpful comment. I was so excited i t worked that I started working on my work documents. Here's what worked: I took out the battery, then put it back in & help the laptop down for about 30 seconds. And it worked!

So, I am back from my work trip now & am working from home today.... and am having the SAME problem. My work is providing me w/a new laptop on Tues (hallelujah!), however I have some deadlines to meet today and am getting frustrated!

I'll try everything you recommended and will let you know if that works... today. Fingers crossed!!

In the meantime, any additional thoughts - aside from dropping the laptop from my 5th floor window? :-)

    Many thanx!!!

Hello! Sorry for my delayed response... once I tried your suggestion above and it worked, I started doing some work.

Once I removed the battery, plugged the charger into the wall & placed the battery back into the laptop - the green charging LED flickered on my laptop & I held it down for 30 seconds & it worked.

GOOD NEWS: I'm getting a new laptop this week.
BAD NEWS: I'm having the same problem right now & need to work.

So, I'm going to try the above steps again and see. In the meantime, any additional thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanx!

When you say you "tried turning it on with the battery removed", did you leave it plugged into the wall with the charging adapter at the time? Please clarify that you tried to use it while plugged in without the battery and it would not power up? When you plugged it in without the battery, was the green charging light on? Or did you get no power light at all?

With your battery in, try using a different outlet to plug into. Plug it into another outlet and when the green charging light comes on press and hold your power button on your keyboard and do not release it for 30 to 45 seconds. Tell me if this boots up the pc even if just for a moment?

There are three lights on your keyboard that should come on when the laptop is plugged in and turned on. One is the power light, the other is the battery charging light and the last one is the hard drive indicator that looks like a round cylinder on the picture. Tell me when you plug it into the outlet and the battery charge light is on, does the hard drive light come on and/or flicker when you try to power up the laptop? How many lights come on when you press and hold down the power button with the cord plugged into the wall?

Dell latitude D610 vga drivers sites

Hi
All drivers for Windows XP for this laptop can be found here:
Product Support Dell US

If under the category heading you specify "video" then the list will give you 2 drivers - both in the form of executable files - which can be downloaded and installed onto the computer. One of the files is for the Intel graphics chipset, and the other for the ATI graphics chipset. You need to make sure of the chipset you have otherwise the drivers will not work properly, if at all.
Hope this is helpful, if so would you please register that with Fixya
Cheers

My dell latitude d610 ac power is work is properly but battrey is not charging plz tell me soulition.

If the D610 works when attached to the AC Power Cord, it is likely that your battery is not capable of taking a charge and needs to be replaced. I have 2 D610 Dell Latitudes and they are very good laptops.

How to use touch pad dell latitude D610

The touch pad on a Dell Latitude D610 works much the same as with other laptops. You can move your finger around the pad to simulate the movement of a mouse, and it will cause the pointer to move across the screen. You can also tap on the touch pad (gently) to "click" on a file, folder, or other item. The touch pad on a D610 doesn't have a hardware switch like some other laptops do so that you can turn it on or off -- it's just always on.
