You need to check if it is charging the battery. Insert another battery into the phone and power it on to see if it will turn on, if it turns on, then you know that the problem is from the battery. Then you replace the battery. If you insert a battery into it and it still does not power on, then you know that the problem is from the power ic. It is bad and need to be replaced.
Hope this solved the problem.

Red light indicating fone charging has not shut off for around 20 hours.

My Vtech 6.0 charging light only turns off when I remove a handset from the charger base. I have had these three set for two years and they work fine. I think that the red light is just to let you know that the charger is working, if you loose power, or unplug one of the base units there is no indication of a dead battery.

My vtech 5831 handset charger won't charge brand new batteries

did you check your charger if it is working?mostly of the charger are malfunctioning its chord or wires.
also try to clean the charger connector of the unit where you can see at the bottom..Clean it with cotton buds to wet of rubbing alcohol.you just rub it to the connector of the handset itself and the connector of the charger itself.

My vtech 5.8 two handsets won't ring

put each one into the base charger and watch the battery light flicker.

that should sort it out. you can also try unplugging the base for about 10 minutes first to reset it.

Charge/in use light

Typically the charge light will stay on as long as the phone is on the charger. After 16hrs, the battery should be fully charged. Leaving it on the charger constantly can actually overcharge the battery, shorening it's life. The best thing to do is use it until it tells you the battery is getting low, then charge it uninterrupted for about 8-12 hrs. Of course, that's ideal and can't always be done, but the more you can do that, the better.

Hope that helps, and please rate my answer, good OR bad.

Good luck!

Vtech M6896 phones do not work

Step 1: Press and hold FIND HANDSET on the main telephone base for 10 seconds.

Step 2: When the IN USE light starts to flash, release the FIND HANDSET button.

Step 3: Press and release FIND HANDSET again. The IN USE light will turn off and in a few seconds, all handsets will be de-registered.

Step 4: All handsets will show NOT REGISTERED.

To register a handset (register 1 handset at a time):
Step 1: Place the handset in the base unit or a charger that is connected to a power outlet. If PRESS FIND HNDST 4 SEC ON BASE does not appear on the screen after a few seconds, lift up handset and place in base or charger again.

Step 2: On the telephone base, press and hold FIND HANDSET for four seconds. Release FIND HANDSET once the IN USE light comes on.

After a while the handset will emit a series of tones, the newly registered handset will be assigned the lowest extension number not previously assigned to another system handset (1-4) when successfully registered. Repeat Steps 1 and 2 if the handset does not successfully register to the telephone base within two minutes.
