My router regularly drops out my wifi signal, sometimes 6-7 times a day depending on usage. The problem is usually resolved by turning power off and on. (Very frustrating as located at top of stairs!) Problem is very random and doesn't seem to have any particular cause. Doesn't seem to matter where my laptop/device is located. Any advice would be appreciated!

That's about par for the course. This happens most everywhere and it needs to be reset. Upsetting I know, but most everyone has to deal with the same thing.

SOURCE: N1 Belkin to HP notebook - connection speed drops to 24mbps

It might be because of other electronic devices that works nearby in similar frequency...devices lik microwave oven, inverters, modems provided by the ISP which comes along with a battery backup, especially RCA modem which doesnt allows other wireless devices to work nearby it... try to relocate the router to a well ventilated area, and make sure you have kept the router atleast 5 feet away from other electronic devices...it could help....

SOURCE: router keeps dropping connection

the problem might be with your dsl line. Check to see if it happens with all phones, sky and non broadband equipment removed from your phone sockets. if it still drops contact your isp.

SOURCE: My Belkin router data light goes out and drops connection

Try to upgrade the firmware of the router.
Is there any computer connected to the router with the cable.
If not then you will need to connect the computer to the router.
Download the firmware of the router from the manufacturer's website.
enter the model number. select proper version number and download the firmware of the router.
Once you download the firmware, you will need to open the router set up and upgrade the firmware of the router.
After upgrading the firmware, it is recommended that you reset and reconfigure the router.

This MAY resolve your issue.

The wifi connects to my hi sense TV however it drops out every couple of days and I have to enter the password again it only last for about 3 days drops out grrrrrrrrrrrrrr

test online speed for wifi..tv needs 40 MB. download speed, also straight line to the tv.check location if it is up or downstairs, in another room. Repositioning tv may help. height of wifi router can affect it. It sounds like you wifi signal is barely in range of the tv, when it drops low and then back, you will have to reenter the security password. can you move the tv closer to the wifi router? If not there are 2 solutions, buy an ac wall plug router which sends your wifi through the whole residence, or a dlink wifi extender to increase your coverage.

What causing that the Wi-Fi connecting at Windows8 faled every few minutes.???

Hi
The normal cause for WiFi failing regularly, dropping out, is due to distance from the WiFi signal source. This distance is not just feet and inches but also dependant upon the nature of objects between the signal source and the receiver. I recently found a case where the signal source had been put behind a large modern TV, and the WiFi signal in the next room was so slow and intermittent that the internet was unusable. Moving the router in front of the TV (in a position where it did not obstruct the picture!!!) cured the problem and they now have fast WiFi internet.

Things That Affect Wireless Router Signals

1. Many wireless routers are using the same wireless channel. Many manufacturers choose channel 6 as the default. Change to another channel.
2. Analogue video senders used to send audio and video to other TVs in the home.
3. Microwave ovens emit interference in the 2.4GHz band.
4. Wireless speakers and console controllers can cause interference with the wireless router.
5. Bluetooth devices, newer Bluetooth devices can jump to different frequencies if there is a connection problem.
6. Power cables located near the wireless router can cause dropouts and speed reduction.
7. Fish tanks and mirrors will cause massive Wi-Fi shadow on the other side of the tank from the wireless router.
8. Depending upon the location of large mirrors will reflect wireless signal away your computer.
9. Building materials will block wireless signals such as plasterboards with metal foil, reinforced concrete walls and floors. Also objects near the wireless router such as metal filing cabinets and other electrical appliances.
10. Blinking Christmas lights can reduce Wi-Fi performance by 25% when it is close to the wireless router.

Try using a different channel. A higher one. Default settings often get interference from cordless land line phones (up to a mile away!!). Channel change usually resolves the issue.

I have a NetGear WNR834M that keeps dropping the signal. Connecting PC directly to the modem I have no problems maintaining signal.0

I too experience a similar issue with the wireless connection dropping. My wireless devices are within a 20-30 foot distance from the router and all of the devices loose conectivity so I know it's not just a specific device.

My WNR834M is running version 1.4.23NA. The logs file doesn't show anything except for one timestamp the last time it was reinitialized (a forced reboot).

The router's WiFi Channel is set for AUTO and is currectly using Channel 1 (found under Maintenance
