Your Majorgeek seems to have been a Minorgeek. When you purchase external speakers to use with your laptop, you must configure your laptop for them. Since your system appears to have worked before you tried to use external speakers, I doubt that you have a problem with your sound device driver. Still,
go to control panel, and check device manager to see if you have any
problems. If you have a problem flagged, let me know. If not, click on Hardware and Sound, then on Sound, and see how your laptop speakers are configured. Majorgeek should have turned off your internal laptop speakers and configured them for your external speakers. If they didn't, that likely explains your problem. Configure them
and test the sound there.
If you need to use your laptop speakers (say you take your laptop somewhere without your external speakers) you will need to reconfigure your sound to the laptop speakers whenever you need to use them. Let me know if this solved your problem.
