HP 5610xi All-in-one wont send fax since switching from Vonage to Comcast

HP 5610xi All-in-one used to send faxes just fine until we switched from Vonage VOIP to Comcast. Connecting line to back of unit doesn't work. Slowing fax speed from fast to medium doesn't work. Dialing *99 first doesn't work. I can hear a brief dial tone then the line goes dead and eventually makes that loud alarm sound like the phone is off the hook.

Thank you for the info and suggestion. I will call Comcast!

Have you checked with your service provider about sending fax from VOIP lines.
Because iam affraid HP does not support VOIP Services.
Even if you call HP Tech Support they will ask you to call your VOIP Service provider they should have a answer for that.
Because the HP Fax machine only supports Analog signals and the VOIP Services have Digital Siganls which the machine cannot recognise, So please contact your VOIP Services for the same to send send faxes because it is not the fax machine which cannot send fax it is your VOIP Service provider which has a problem.

Good Luck

Will not send a fax

There is two things i can think of that can cause this. The number one is if you are using a voip carrier (like vonage or att voip or comcast digital voice) they are usually not compatable with fax machines. You will need either a dedicated fax line or you will need to whats called a fax line from vonage or comcast, or from your voip service. If you are using a phone line test to make sure you have it connected correctly buy simply dialing your cell phone or a friends cell phone (let him know you are going to test) once you do this you will hear a ring and an annoying fax machine tone buzzing in your ear. if this is the case and you do have everthing connected correcly i would put a trouble ticket in with your phone company, to test the line condition of your line (to make sure its not shorting or anything like that)
i hope this helps if there was more information i could do better but hopefully this will help out a bit.
Thanks
Steven

HP 3380 All-in-one. wont send faxes. dials, says connecting, and even sometimes starts to send page, but comes up comm error. I have vonage phone service.

Vonage claims to work with all fax machines. However, some customers report having had trouble sending and/or receiving faxes with Vonage and other voice-over IP (VoIP) providers. The difficulties are a frequent topic in help forums and even made the Wikipedia entry for Vonage. Frustratingly, the problems have been intermittent and hard to diagnose, and some customers have resorted to buying a new fax machine that better-suits Vonage’s optimum specifications. The company’s official “help” resource suggests lowering the baud rate on the fax machine to 9600 (or “slow”) as well as disabling the machine’s ECM (error correction mode) feature, if applicable. Also, make sure the fax machine is on the “standard” setting. Some users have had good luck adding *99 before dialing, as that resets the bandwidth for that call.
Vonage also allows its customers to send faxes over the Internet, without a fax machine, by uploading documents to the Vonage web site. There is no additional charge for this service if you’re on the company’s “Unlimited Plan.” Per-minute customers will see fax use applied toward their monthly minutes allowance. Hope this helps.

Can't Send or Receive Faxes from MFC-7820 N

You may not need a separate fax line from Vonage. If you don't need a dedicated fax line, you can try changing the "Bandwidth Saver" settings on your Vonage voice line from your account on the Vonage website. Perform the following:

1. Login to your Vonage account online and click the "Features" tab.
2. Scroll down to the "Bandwidth Saver" link and click on the "Configure" button.
3. You will see a scrollbar with 3 settings: 30kbps, 50kbps and 90kbps

NOTE: My "Saver" was set to 90kbps (Highest Sound Quality) by default.

4. Click on 30kbps (Normal) and click "Submit".
5. Wait about an hour before testing as it could take that long for the change to take effect.
6. Send a test fax to the HP fax test service at 1-888-hpfaxme (1-888-473-2963).

NOTE: This is a GREAT service provided by HP. If your fax goes through correctly, you will receive a return fax within five minutes.

We upgraded to Verizon FiOS and never thought the increased upload speed (4mbps) would present an issue sending faxes. WRONG. We never had fax issues with DSL, Comcast or even Broadstripe VOIP service but for some reason Vonage + FiOS = no fax. That is until we set our Vonage VOIP sound quality to "Normal". Our phone voice quality has been much more reliable since throttling back. This sentiment has also been shared by other Vonage users who have experienced echoing and noise when utilizing the higher quality settings.

Your phone coversations may not have FM quality sound but they will have AM quality and usually that is just fine.

If your fax machine has a Telephone Answering Device (TAD) setting, you can share your voice line with your fax machine and be able to receive faxes and voice messages. Hopefully this will work for you.
