I have a 97 Chevy blazer with push button 4 wheel drive and it don't shift In to 4 low or 4 hi and the light should flash for 30 second then go back to 2 hi if it can't shift but when you push the button nothing lights up I also pull a code 2 out of the tccm and the wire harness that's goes to the shift motor the pins have 5 volts and pin 3 is less then 2 ohms so that checks out

How about to the switch , is there battery power ? Fuse #15 FWD 10amp. I/P fuse panel . BCM - body control module light's the switch indicators 2hi, 4hi,4low . Check fuse #6 10amp I/P fuse panel .
DTC 002
The transfer case encoder motor is an assembly which houses four separate channels. These channels are used to indicate to the transfer case shift control module the present gear position of the transfer case or if the transfer case is in transition between gears. The encoder motor assembly consists of an electronically conductive inner ground ring in contact with a three legged wiper arm. Each leg's length is such that it makes contact with the conductive regions of the four channels. When any leg of the wiper arm is making contact with the conductive area of any channel, the encoder provides a path to ground to the inner ground ring.
During electronic shifting, the transfer case shift control module monitors the transfer case encoder circuit for the proper operating sequence. If at any time during a shift, the encoder changes from one position to any position other than the next possible position, an error counter in the transfer case shift control module increments by four. After the counter reaches 32, the transfer case shift control module set a DTC 2, a permanent "encoder fault," and reverts to a 2HI to 4LO or a 4LO to 2HI shift pattern only. To guard against a transient, random encoder fault due to vibration, dirt, electrical noise, etc., the fault counter reduces by one each time the transfer case shift control module detects a valid encoder value. The encoder must intermittently fail 25 percent of the time for the transfer case shift control module to consider it faulty and store DTC 2.

This step tests the suspect circuit(s) for an open, short to power, or short to ground.
This step tests the encoder signal ground circuit for an open or high resistance.

Important: Check the transfer case shift control module for DTCs. The transfer case shift control module is not a class 2 device. DTCs are displayed on the transfer case shift control switch. Use the following four steps to obtain DTCs.
Turn OFF the ignition for 10 seconds.
Connect PIN 13 on the data link cable (DLC) to a ground. The DLC is located in the cab under the instrument panel on the driver's side.
Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
Observe the transfer case shift control switch select buttons for flashing codes.
Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Transfer Case?

YES - Go to Step 2
NO - Go to Diagnostic System Check

Disconnect the connector at the encoder motor.
Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
Measure the voltage between the transfer case encoder circuit channels P, A, B, and C to ground.
Does the voltage measure near the specified value?
4.8-5.1 V
YES - Go to Step 4
NO --Go to Step 3

Test the suspect circuit for an open, short to power, or short to ground. Refer to General Electrical Diagnosis and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?

With a DMM at the transfer case module connector probe the encoder sign ground pin and ensure a good ground path through the module.

small sylinoid on the top of the transfer case needs replaced. easy to do. it has three vacumelines going to it just trun out and replace like a bolt.

you need a special spring compressing tool to remove and reinstall the hinge spring and then its a matter of removing the door installing the new bushing and rehang the door with new pins ive tried doing this while leaving the door on the car trust me its just harder that way good luck and please rate -jeff

Some of these must be reprogrammed.Double check the connections, look for bent pins, with a terminal tool or small pick CAREFULLY bend female connectors tighter to ensure good contact with male pins. The use of a good scanner could help pinpoint the trouble.

hey there i cant tell you what you are missing but i can tell you how to disengage the front wheels . ok you have a vacum line that runs right under the battery and a line that comes up from the front diff. to the same place ( you may have to remove batt and batt tray to get full access to this) un bolt it and temporaly put batt and batt tray back in start it up and decompress this and see if it comes out .... you should here clunking noise if it goes back in ... if thats the case just pull that big vaccum line off .... to test get all four tires off the ground and have some one put it in drive but dont hit the gas it should turn on its own ...if that dont work check the cable that runs down to the differental

My 1998 blazer wont stay in 2 hi it sound like it is whining roaring really loud

this is because its not fully shifting back into 2 Hi. make sure vehicle is in neutral and idling, push the 4 Low button listen for a shifting sound or whirring noise. then push 2 Hi button. it flashes while it is attempting to shift you should hear a shifting clunk or whirring noise, then the light will stay lit. after shifting from 2 wheel drive to 4 wheel drive shift into reverse before selecting drive on the column. the rpm going so high is because your vehicle is still in 4 wheel drive. the low gearing results in high rpm. if it does not shift into 2 wheel drive : there is a shift actuator on the transfer case, check the cable connected to it. this cable is connected to the vacuum control pump deal that controls you cruise control. this pump is located directly under the battery box. the plate the battery sits on must be removed in order to see it. check any wiring there and check for vacuum leaks in the lines connected to it . this pump actually pulls on the cable going to the shift actuator. check that the cable is attached and the baffle on the pump is moving. you can manually pull the cable by hand, while having an assistant operate the buttons inside the cab. this will release the actuator in the transfer case allowing the transfer case to shift properly. basically its a locking mechanism, locking the transfer case in the selected gear range. it must actuate in order to complete the shift

Problems with chevy s10

have the actuator (mounted on the drivers side transfer case) checked. that is what makes the selection from 2-4 hi-4 low. it takes the place of a gear shift. they are a fairly inexpensive and easy repair (if thats the problem). i would start there providing you have checked the fuses and relays. i hope this helps.

When drivingtruck in 2 wheel drive the 4 wheel low light will flash and when slow truck down to a stop it will shift into 4 wheel low and will not go back to 2 wheel high

Sometimes the solenoids will stick on the axle neither in 2 or 4 wheel drive, if this problem started when you weren't shifting between two and four wheel drive it is probably the push button switch cluster on your dash going bad

I have a 1996 chevy blazer and dont know how to disengage from four wheel drive to two wheel drive?

As I recall the 96 blazer had electronic shifting for 2wd to 4wd. There should be a small panel on the drivers dash buttons for 2wd, 4wd lo and 4wd hi.

Simply press the desired button while stationary and if the system is functioning properly then it will shift and the light for the engaged type of drive will be lighted. Generally you would like to be in 2wd for this vehicle.

When push button for 4 wheel drive the front end want ingage and the button just keeps flashing

Have you tried putting it in Neutral, then selecting 4-low. That's what we have to do on our 2000 Chevy Blazer. Same with going from 4-low to 4-high or 4-low to 2 high. It will shift from 2-high to 4 high on the fly (not in Neutral) and back.

I have a 1999 chevy blazer and its stuck in 4 wheel drive low

while on level ground, start truck, shift tranni to netural, step on brake, shift from 4 low to low hi either through lever or push button which ever one you have. problem solved.

1996 chevy blazer will not go into 4wd hi but it will go in to 4wd lo. when you push the 4 Hi button it just flashes and then does nothing.

The major components to this system are a shift control motor that is mounted to the transfer case, and a shift control module that is behind your center console. since the transfer case is still shifting into 4wd lo, the shift motor is still moving somewhat, so the most likely cause is the shift control module, but there isn't an easy way to troubleshoot between the two...

Your blazer is equipped with a shift on the fly four wheel drive. That means that at speeds less than fifteen miles per hour you can shift into or out of four wheel drive by simply pushing the four wheel high button. If you wish to shift into four wheel low. Stop, put the transmission into park or neutral, and push the four wheel low button. Same procedure for shifting back out. Never shift into or out of four wheel low while moving. And be careful in four wheel low. At full throttle your still barely moving, you don't want to blow your engine up!
