You need a PCI video card
If you go to your local computer store and tell them you have PCI slots but not AGP or PCI Express then they might be able to recommend something. If you want to be able to use a higher end video card I'm afraid you're going to have to upgrade to a newer computer.
Tigerdirect .com and Newegg.com has some nice PCI cards
Please take time to rate me. http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/category/category_slc.asp?CatId=319&
only two things. It might be the Video Adapter or the Monitor. First, try the monitor on another Pc then if it does work, try to insert-reinsert your video card that is a rectangular shape with a fan if the screen keeps appearing in blue, then you might have to replace your video card but make sure that you know what kind of socket do you have whether it's a PCI-express or AGP it's best to consult that to a trusted techinician.
Given that this is a laptop, the video card is probably hardwired to the m-board and, as a result, not a part which is easily removed and replaced with a new card.
You would be better served by contacting the manufacturer, where you will be given a much wider set of options for replacing the video card.
Hopefully, you will get a more robust set of options from which to choose a replacement.
The machine has a 4x/8x AGP slot So you should be good with up to a 512Mb AGP Video card of your choice . Ati has several very in expensive card that are good you presently have a 64Mb onBoard video so to upgrade you go to 128 or 512 card Be fine they will come with how to's and software and driver disk! Hope this is of help!
Here are a couple steps you can do to verify something didn't come on correctly. - Verify the monitor cable is connected tightly to the monitor and PC. - Verify the power cable is plugged in.
If both of these check out is there a little LED light on your monitor that is on? If not swap it out with another monitor and see if a different one works. If so we have a bad monitor. If both do not work you may have a video card issue. Most EMachines come with a onboard video card which is bad news. If you have a onboard video card you will have to verify the warrantly though Emachine and get it fixed. Good luck and I hope things go well.
Here are the specs to your machine: http://www.emachines.com/support/product_support.html?cat=Desktops&subcat=D-Series&model=D2685
click the specs tab. It seems you have only PCI slots in thos machine, so you cannot use an AGP card (the other type you may have seen). Video cards are clearly marked PCI or AGP.
Does this machine not have a built in video port already? Or do you just want to upgrade?
