Washer is making a loud knocking noise and the drum may be moving forward toward the door and/or hitting the side of the washer. It's worst while on washing cycle - improves with spin especially as speed increases.

Your drum is out of line and to check is to remove your rubber front gasket and see whether the drum have more space and any of it's sides. It should be evenly spaced out. Good Luck

When the washer spins on it makes a loud noise. It seems to be off balance

Open the door and see if there is excessive movement on the stainless drum. Ca you move it forwards and backwards, up and down? If so then the most likely cause is the drum bearings. You need a tradsemas to chage these using special pullers.

2001 Gibson Washing Machine - Front Loader

Hi,

Most noises from a washing machine occur during the spin cycle. If you hear loud thumping during the spin, the load of clothes may have become unbalanced. Stop the washer and redistribute the clothes, then re-start it. Repeat these steps if necessary.

My frididaire front load washer is making a loud knocking sound as it goes through the cycle. Also the metal "basket" in which the clothing is places seems to be "off its track" and loose. i can move it...

It sounds like the shocks for the drum are broken. The shocks absorb the wobbling of the drum due to unbalanced loads, etc. Remove the lower front panel (with machine unplugged) and look towards the back on each side and see if you see broken or hanging shocks. The panel has 2 screws I think and should come right off.
Also, if you can open the door and lifting up on the drum inside the machine and moving it around and hear a clunking sound, the drum bearings may be bad. Give that a try and see what you find.

Sounds like something is knocking around in the back of the washer. On the spin cycle, the noise is very loud anyway, but it sounds like there is something banging around inside. The drum moves around...

ok open the door
make sure the thing is empty
try to move the inner tub
if you can shke it side to side anything but around
you have a broken spinner support

Noise from drum

Hi,
This is difficult to work out as there are so many different symptoms. Here are my thoughts -

Dust from carbon rushes is black. Grey dust usually comes from a loose concrete weight. Loose tub weights are rare on this model but they cause a loud knocking noise which is often worse when the washing machine is revving up to spin and dying down from a spin (suspension problems are also often worse at this safe too). It's not normally a metallic sound though.

If the noise is coming from the motor banging against the sides of the machine then it will make the machine move when it happens. The whole machine may jump or move to one side. The motor often thumps the side of the washing machine on Hotpoint washers where the motor is fitted at the top of the tub and over to the right hand side. This is a daft place to fit a motor and only .I think they've eventually stopped now though.

It is normal to be able to push the drum to the side so that the motor hits the casing. If the suspension has gone, the tub should be twisted and leaning to one side more than the other or it just could be very loose. It's difficult to check suspension if you don't know how it should feel.

If the noise is coming from the inner drum hitting the heating element or throwing an object like a £1 coin (trapped between the inner drum and the outer tub) around, then the washing machine will be stable but the noise would still be a horrible metallic knocking. This is one cause I suspect.

Drum is really loose and when hits spin cycle makes loud noise

Most front loaders are pretty much the same and it sounds like your tub bearings are going bad. There is also a problem in some front loaders where the drum arms corrode and break. You won't know until you pull it apart. If you are doing the work yourself it depends on the parts you need. You can knock out old bearings and match some up.
If you are paying someone, it may be cheaper to buy a new washer..
