Sony does not support this configuration, the last OS they supported for this is Win 98. It is doubtful that any of the generic drivers that come with XP will work with the drive.

How can I copy files using Windows XP onto a Quantum CD72LWH DAT tape drive?

With the drive came software, for certain operating systems. If you don' have a program with your quantum, perhaps you try a program from NovaStor. and hope they do also deliver the drivers you need for working with that drive. Inform first, because the NovaStor software is not for free. I don't know any free ware backup software you could use to test the drive first.

try to restore your system using system restore
Run --> msconfig --> System Restore...

Find a date back in the past where the system was working. What you can also do to test to see if it's windows with out loosing your files, partition like 10 gb and install windows xp, boot into the partition windows xp and try to burn a disc. If all works we know it's windows what you can try is reinstall your drivers for the driver or do a system restore or reinstall windows, BACKUP first. If it's windows then you can delete the partition 10gb to get back the 10gb for you to use again. If all was working awhile back and you know the date and all the programs you might of installed since then. Go to Control Panel --> Add/Remove Programs --> Find all installed since then and remove them.

Anytime I try to backup or copy a 33GB data file on a 40GB or 72GB Data cartridge, it requests for more data cartridge even after formatting the data cartridge prior to starting the process. Sometimes, the...

Because the DAT72 can copy 72GB with 2:1 compressed, and it's native capability is 36GB in the most. So you can try to copy less than 30GB data to it or try to enable the drive's compress mode.

I have a Seagate Tapestor 20GB tape drive. I have upgraded to a XP driver but the software does not recognize the tape media to do a backup.

Try to use a cleaning cartridge. If the tape drive is still not recognizing the tape media after you clean it then your heads are bad

Pc Freezes when attempting to access HP SSL-1016 Ultrium 460 Tape

I have to admit this is a tough one. You seem to have tried most things i would try 1st.

I would suggest trying to download an eval coy of another backup program such as backup exec 12.5 from the symantec website and trying that.

This enables you to eliminate the backup software from your enquiries and if you also enable BUEX to use its own drivers (rather than the standard windows drivers) then that is another thing eliminated.

http://www.trilan-it.com/ are pretty good near the Berkshire area if you need a field call to help sort the issue but i would try BUEX 1st as that will help diagnose the problem even if you dont wish to continue with their software

Seagate STT63200P Win XP Driver

I would suggest you have to put it on a Windows 95 computer as I have a unit and the Driver should go with a windows 95 just to get your data.

Backup copying seems at a standstill

Okay Ive got the solution for you you. You need to reformatt the harddrive initially and then when you copy your 10Gb of data you need to split it up and copy it in smaller portions, because what is causing you problems is damaged or corrupted data files that you are trying to move and the system cannot copy them. by copying your files in smaller bundles lets say 1gb or 2gbs at a time you should be able to isolate the problematic files. this method also helps to avoid congestion in your buffers and processor. thanks
