Oops, I ran it too long without checking/filling the oil, and it seized up. What do I do now? (The motor stopped running while refilling the air tank, so I pulled the dipstick, and it was dry and smoking. Now, every time I turn it on, it just hums for a second and trips the breaker.) Is it worth trying to fix, or should I save the time and effort, and just accept the fact that it is ruined?

It may be worth the effort to replace the compressor head, the actual pump, if the rest of the unit is in good shape, the motor has protection and can be tested once the motor is disengaged from the head unit.

SOURCE: what size line should i run to a 60 gallon air

You need to up size your wire. According to one site I pulled up on the Intranet and input your information, which was 208VAC, 15 AMP and 375 feet it said you need #6 AWG wire.

SOURCE: Compressor won't sstay running and trip breaker

You gave a lot of information, but you didn't say if it worked when free wheeling. If not, I would suspect the inertia switch. If it is working, you should hear it click when the motor is winding down after being shut off, at least when free wheeling. A 20 amp breaker will certainly handle a 15 FLA motor, even on startup. They don't trip at 20 amps exactly, especially on a simple overload. Even at twice the rated amperage, it can take several minutes to trip it. They will trip quickly on a dead short, however, or a severe overload. I doubt the windings are shorted or it either wouldn't work (start windings) or would run at a slower speed with the inertia switch constantly tripping in and out with it coasting while tripped in (i.e., accelerate, coast, accelerate, coast, etc.)

SOURCE: The motor runs fine with

Turn the compressor pump pulley by hand (with belt off) and air pressure in the tank. It should be very easy to turn. If it is hard to turn, evaluate the check valve for leak. If no leak examine crank bearings for damage. Repair as needed. If easy to turn fault is with motor. Check amp draw with belt removed. When the motor comes on, it should draw about 15 amps and drop lower. The motor should start and reach full rpm in a split second. It should start with a bang and run smoothly with-out getting hot and only pull low amount of amps. If slow start and high amp draw, check capacitor/s and or start winding switch inside of motor. Sometimes the start switch will burn the contacts and give trouble. If both capacitors test within 95% of value and start switch appears to be good, look for damaged copper windings. Windings will be discolored or burned and the tie strings binding the windings will be melted. Replace as needed. Good holidays

SOURCE: I have an Emglo compressor which firers up without

If the in-tank check valve is leaking air back into discharge line from the pump, the motor will not have enough power to overcome headpressure. Easy test with some air in the tank. Remove the discharge hose at the brass check valve at tank. Spray soapy water on valve to test for leak. If leaking remove the valve and clean the seat or replace as needed (drain air from tank before you remove the valve). If no leak at the valve, test the capacitor(should read to within 95% of mfd rating). Good luck

Backpack gas blower

Monching, You will have to hope there is not too much damage done already from running straight Gas. Empty all straight gas from blowers tank and refill with proper minimum 50:1 gas oil mix. Start blower and run on 1/2 throttle for a few minutes to be sure its going to be OK. If seized, you will have to try and unseize and if lucky it may run if not too much damage internally. You should run a heavier oil to gas mix 32 or 40:1 in an engine that's been seized. Check the attached links, instruction and guides, Good luck

Craftsman model #921166390 motor

The motor does not take oil on that unit. The compressor housing does though. If you cant get it to start after it ran dry, the cylinder is most likely seized to the piston.

Ran out of engine oil and after i refilled, it wont start

I the engine ran completely out of oil, the engine has been cooked and is probably locked up from the friction between unlubricated metal moving parts. Also may have spun bearings which means the main or rod bearings stacked on top of each other causing the engine to lockup. If you ran the engine without oil until it quit you will probably need a new engine.

2005 Kawasaki Ninja 250 I bought it as a project So the guy who had it drop it at a construction zone and broke all the plastices He had the bike sitting in the backYard for 5 years it only has 2,423 miles...

If you over filled the motor that much and you got it into all the components you say, then it's probably going to smoke for a while longer. You probably have motor oil in the exhaust. That's probably what you're seeing. If it doesn't stop after running it a couple of times maybe a couple of test rides then I would do a compression check just to make sure. Then a leak down test to make sure the rings are ok. I would run it for a while first. That amount of oil will take a bit to burn off.

Ran low on oil n car won't turn over

you may have seized the motor. Fill it with oil and see if you can manually turn the crank with a wrench. If you can't, the engine is most likely damaged beyond repair. If you can manually move the crank an oil sensor may have stopped the car from killing itself. Try to start it once you have filled it back up with oil.

I have a craftsman air compressor (small) with 2 wheels on end, my probelm is when i plug it up it buzzes only, will not start motor, what could be problem

unplug it and see if you can turn the motor pulley by hand, it should turn freely. If it does, check to see if the motor runs with the belt off. If the motor runs by itself then either the belt was too tight or the compressor is seized.

Craftsman compressor won't cycle off

Hi, First, I think the cutoff pressure is 135psi and there is an overpressure valve so let it run a little longer. I don't know exactly which model you have ( some of these were oil less) but if it is running longer than you remember, be sure to check the oil if necessary, make sure you are not using a long extension as this will cause the motor to slow down and definitely check to make sure the water is drained and the drain petcock is closed all the way. Also check it without an air hose attached. Good Luck!

START CAPACITOR COULD BE BAD BUT TYPICALLY WOULD LEAK OIL-LIKE FLUID IF IT WAS DAMAGED. CUTTING OFF AND ON CONTINOUSLY COULD BE THE PRESSURE SWITCH IS DAMAGED. SOUNDS MORE LIKE WRONG VOLTAGE. THERE ISNT A LOW OIL PROTECTION DEVICE.?
