When trying to launc;h sing plaoyer in CoD 2 the error "please insert the correct cd/dvd rom press ok the restart the application"...dvd is clean and free of scratches, I have changed campatibility mode to 98se sp2, and run the program in as administrator...what needs to be done to fix this problem?

The game need the play disk... you must insert the play disk into your CD ROM.

or

browse the content of the CD, try to find the crack folder. Click -->"Browse"--> go to the folder named--> "Crack".

Inside that folder, you will find an--> ".exe" file (the executable of the game)-->"Copy" this file to --> the folder in your HDD, where you have installed the game.

AND CD - AND IT WORKS
YOU EITHER HAVE A BAD DISK OR YOU DO NOT HAVE A DVD AND YOU NEED A DVD TO WORK THE GAME
TRY COMPLETELY REMOVING THE CD - DVD PLAYER YOU HAVE AND REBOOT WITHOUT IT - THEN FIND AND REMOVE THE DRIVERS - THEN REINSTALL IT.
REMOVE THE CD - DVD PLAYER AND DRIVERS ONLY IF YOU'RE RUNNING WINDOWS XP AS AN OPERATING SYSTEM.

You need to do a complete uninstall since most uninstall programs leave lots of junk behind and fool the computer into "thinking" that the software is still installed.. See if manufacturer has software available (EX - Norton has sit) that does a complete uninstall. If not you will have to get brave and to into the registry using regedit to remove all vestiges of the program and then reinstall it. Good luck.
Or try a system restore point that was generated BEFORE the date of your original install of the program!
