I just purchased a Rebel T2i and a 580EX II Speedlight. After approximately 50 flash photos, the speedlight shifts slightly to the rear and it appears the contact between the speedlight and camera partially disconnects and produces a full burst of flash overexposing the photo. Is the problem likely in the camera mount or the speedlight and what is the best solution for correction? Thank you for any insight you can provide.

Try these steps:
1. Set camera to manual2. Set shutter to 1/60
3. Set aperture to F5.6
4. ASA/ISO 200
5. 550EX on hotshoe
6. Do not set on slave or master
7. Turn on flash


Display must shows, ETTL.
If that doesn't work, you have to use the flash on manual.
Some of this model will not work fully on ATG Canon EOS-1D C, ATG Canon EOS-1D X IR, Canon EOS-1D X/60D/T4i because this flash is over 20 years old.


Unless you would want it to be modified by me.
But that can be costly when you can get the 580EX II for less than $425.00 USD.

You didn't say what camera model you are using.
If you have 7D/60D/T4i you can have a total of 3 wireless ir flashes.

580EX II must be set at Master, say Group A & Channel 1
Two 270EX II must be set at Slave, say Group A & Channel 1
or
One 270EX II set at Group A & Channel 1
Second 270EX II set Group A & Channel 2


Then go into camera menu & turn off Master flash & turn settings for those two flashes.

It is not possible to use the Nikon SB-50DX directly on a Canon EOS Rebel camera. The Nikon flash gun hot shoe contacts do not match the Canon hot shoe contacts.
You can use the Nikon as a slave flash gun with a PC flash cord that matches the Nikon's flash contacts then connect the end of this flash cord to a flash trigger. The Canon's flash can then trigger the Nikon flash gun via the flash trigger.

To reset your Nikon Speedlight SB-600 you need to press Mode + ON/OFF, both buttons simultaneously for approximately 2 seconds to reset all settings, including the custom settings (except the distance unit selected in m/ft) to their default values.

With new batteries in the flash, and it being off camera what happens when you press the test button. If still it does not flash call Nikon 1-800-645-6689

The 400D uses flash assisted focusing. In low light conditions the auto focus cannot get a focus lock so it pops the flash a few times so the lens has a chance to focus. You will notice this will go away when in the manual focus mode (the switch on the side of the lens).

The only way around this problem (as people in a photo think the photo has already been taken and looks away when the camera actually takes the picture) is to use a hotshoe mounted TTL Canon Speedlight (430ex or 580ex) which use an infra-red focussing beam.

Check in the user guid for your camera about their recomended shutter speed setting for the flash.

Try using the camera and the flash in "A" (automatic) to start with.

ALL Canon digital EOS cameras will work with E-TTL only. Solution: you need EX flash for full auto.

I haven't heard of this problem but compliments of velocityreviews I came up with this. Follow the instructions below to attach an external Speedlight. Refer to your Speedlight manual for detailed instructions regarding Speedlight operation. 1 Make sure that both the camera and the external Speedlight are turned off. 2 Attach the Speedlight to the camera accessory shoe. 3 Turn both the camera and the Speedlight on. 4 Set the external Speedlight zoom head to an angle wider than 28 mm. If you are using a Speedlight with Auto Power Zoom, set the zoom head angle manually. The COOLPIX5700 does not support power zoom. 5 Set the external Speedlight flash mode to TTL. At this setting, the amount of light produced by the external Speedlight is measured by the camera?s photocell, and the flash shooting range adjusted automatically to ensure optimal exposure. D-TTL flash control (available with the SB-80DX, SB-50DX and SB-28DX) is not supported. 6 Take the picture If the Speedlight Options: Speedlight Control option in the SET-UP menu is set to Auto, only the external Speedlight will fire. If this option is set to Int & Ext Active then the external Speedlight and the builtin Speedlight will fire at the same time. The COOLPIX5700 does not support AF-assist illumination, or red-eye reduction using the red-eye reduction lamp on the external Speedlight. At a setting of STBY (standby), the Speedlight will turn on automatically whenever the camera turns on but will not turn off automatically when the camera turns off.
