I have 34 different symbols, how many 6 symbol codes can I get. and 7 and 8?

Try using symbol mode:
Press the left scroll key and select 123 till you get SYMBOL mode
then scroll (press the right scroll key) till you get the . symbol

That is not factoring you need but simplifying.
First you deal with the numerical numbers -14/12=-7/6
Then consider the letters a/a=1
c/c=1
Thus (-14abc/12ac)=(-7/6)(a/a)b(c/c)=(-7/6)(1)(b)(1)=-7b/6

Yes the 6 + 1 part is an expression. Once you have an = sign or any of the other inequality symbols (,...) it is no longer an expression but a full math sentence

Hold the Start/Reload button for 6/7 seconds till the symbol disappears.

this is a 1999?
2.5 is the V-6 and are SOHC
2.4 are 4-cyl and DOHC

If you are willing to use VB.NET, then it will be easy. You would need the Symbol EMDK. With that and VS2008 (Express should be fine as well), you only need few coding steps:

1) Add reference to dlls
Symbol.dll and Symbol.Barcode.Dll

2) Finder a scanner
s = Symbol.Barcode.Device.AvailableDevices.First()

3) make a reader
r = New Symbol.Barcode.Reader(s)

4) add data
d = New Symbol.Barcode.ReaderData(1, 1024)

5) enable laser
r.Actions.Enable()

6) enable reading
r.Actions.Read(nrd)

7) add handler
AddHandler r.ReadNotify, AddressOf r_ReadNotify

8) read data in event
msgbox(d.Text)

different models use different display methods, if there is any sort of touch screen it will appear there in an alpha-numeric display
eg U4-2 or J3-2 etc.others just display symbols if there is no touch screen (symbols like a pyramid of dots for out of toner, crossed circle for drum end of life etc) some of those will display a number if you hold down the clear button or the stop button, depending on the model
there are probably 5 or 6 different diagnostic systems needing different entry modes...you will have to be very specific with both the code and the model number of the machine
